Should we try Boma?

My family of 5 is not too adventurous foodwise so we have never tried Boma. I am wondering if it is time to take the plunge with our upcoming trip. I am thinking breakfast, because at least it will have all the usual dishes in addition to the specialty dishes. Can anyone recommend whether it would be good for somewhat picky eaters?

Breakfast buffets always have the standard eggs, bacon, sausage, breads, cereals, fruit, so I'm sure you'll be fine!

I do think the dinner is a little on the adventurous side (we love it), but the breakfast pics I have seen look great and there is definitely something for every taste.

Have fun!!!

OMG Boma is our FAVORITE restaurant EVER!! YES you should try it!! Breakfast is just breakfast fare...try it for dinner! I was actually disappointed with the breakfast 'cuz it was so very normal. I was hoping for more traditional cuisine like at dinner. EVERYTHING is SOOOOO good!! There are soups that are FABULOUS and standard kids fare too if the kiddos refuse to try anything they've never heard of. We love how unusual the choices are - not like anything we can get at home!! And it's all GOOD. That's what amazes me about this buffet - how often do you find a buffet where everything, everything, everything is GOOD?! Just because you've never heard of it does not mean it's like eating nasty bugs on Survivor!! It's not like that at all!!!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Three thumbs up from us!!!

We've never done breakfast at Boma, but Dinner is a favorite of ours! There's plenty of normal fare and since it's a buffet, you can see what you're getting and only get a little to try it. I've heard wonderful things about breakfast too. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Can any of us guarantee you will like Boma? No. Does that mean you shouldn't try it? No.

I think you'll never know if you will like it if you don't try it. If the people in the party are not interested in trying new things, I'd probably skip it. If they don't mind trying new things and are willing to go into the experience knowing they may not find much that suits their tastebuds? I say go for it.

If you just want to eat at Boma for the atmosphere, as others have said, breakfast is a "safer" bet.

Dinner would definitely be more adventurous for picky eaters, but their breakfast buffet is very good and I'm sure you would find things that you would like.:thumbsup2

My kids choose Boma when we ask where they would like to eat.
That being said my 12 yr old loves the salmon, my 10 yr old likes the tamarind bbq sauce! They have chicken fingers, spaghetti, mac and cheese too.

I love the fresh salads and fruit. If you have meat eaters the prime rib and chicken is good. I would take a chance unless you are really plain food eaters. It's really delicious, the deserts are worth it even if you didn't like the rest of it!

Have no fears. Boma is only adventurous by Disney standards. It is not real African food -- it is African "inspired." In some cases (like the popular zebra domes) the only thing African about the dish is the name.

If they took away the surroundings and changed the names of the dishes, you might never guess it was an African restaurant, except for some of the sides and sauces. So consider giving it a try for dinner.

My Family DW, DS (11,9,8) are ALL picky eaters and they all LOVED BOMA. They all tried a bunch of things since almost everything tastes outstanding.

There are lots of good foods to try, and the Kids have their own separate buffet section where they can get kid staples. The breakfast is pretty standard fare (But very Good) from what I have heard, but the Dinner is GREAT.

Crazy as that sounds, I agree, almost. Boma is pricey if you are not on the Dining plan. The desserts are awesome. I must have had about 6 favorite desserts there. My boys were in heaven with the Zebra Domes.

Boma is great for breakfast or dinner actually! We eat there every visit and even my picky 12 year old eats plenty.

Breakfast is the basic with a couple of dishes that are not. We love the Quinoa which is a high protein oatmeal-like hot cereal. Most is standard fare except for some egg casserole thing which I didn't try because I was stuffed before getting that far.

Dinner has a few dishes to try that are "adventureous" in a minor way. Nothing major unless you have never had hummus before and then I suppose that will be a safe new try. They also have plenty of normal things and a kids buffet which is mixed right in and you won't feel funny going to it yourself. They have a meat carving station and tons of desserts including the Disfamous Zebra Domes both with and without alcohol.

This would also give you a chance to check out this great resort and view the animals etc. It is a nice change and feels differently than most of the other resorts.

Well, after reading this I am seriously considering changing my b-day dinner plans from Yachtsman Steakhouse to Boma and that will save us from having to pay for any of our TS meals out of pocket. The word "African" is what scared me away from even considering this place, but you have changed my mind :thumbsup2

Yes - go - it's AWESOME
DS16 & DD13 still consider it their fave, and DS eats next to nothing. There's a kid's section at dinner with mac & cheese, chicken fingers etc., so no worries. And the "exotic" fare is really delicious!

Thanks everyone. We made a breakfast ADR, but I am considering changing it to dinner. Sounds good.

My family and I have been to Boma four different times for dinner and it's been one of the best meals we ever had at WDW.

Here is everything they had, pretty much, the day we went to dinner there. The only things missing are a couple of the kids choices, the assortment of fruits, and a spiced chicken that we didn't try. I hope this gives you an idea of what the food is like!!

Here are the 4 soups they had -- Clockwise from top mulligatawny (a chicken with some apple), a spicy chicken of some sort, potato bacon, and a seafood gumbo.

Here are the 3 types of hummus...black olive, sundried tomato, and a chili-spiced (I believe), with flatbread.

Some of the fruit -- all very fresh and yummy.

Very good chicken nuggets and fries.

100_2118.jpg

The salads. From top, clockwise. Ghana tomato salad, something leafy, pasta salad, pearl couscous with shrimp, and watermelon rind salad.

100_2116.jpg

From top, clockwise. Fufu (a sweet squash dish), salmon with coconut curry sauce, a polenta-type thing with tomato sauce, mushroom rice, falafel balls with sauce, and couscous with tomato sauce.

100_2119.jpg

From top, clockwise. Bobtie (eggs, sausage, sorta sweet), sausage with peppers and onions, beef with 4 kinds of dipping sauces, cornbread muffin, potatoes with Afritude (spiced).

100_2120.jpg

Desserts. From top, clockwise. Apple crisp, bread pudding with vanilla sauce (OMG, good), cheesecake, strawberry tart, some cake that tasted alcoholy, and the zebra dome with alcohol. I don't know what the white thing in the middle is!

If I've named anything incorrectly, sorry! I'm going strictly from memory from our Feb trip. Can you tell I liked it there? hehehh

They do rotate the menu, and this menu was not quite as delish as the other menu I had in the past, but I think of this place as an adventure -- love trying everything!

We LOVE breakfast at Boma, it is just fantasic! Dinner was a bomb for us, we did not like the flavors of the food and the desserts were ick

I guess I'm the one dissenting opinion. We had dinner there summer '08 and it was my least favorite dinner meal. The sliced meats were okay but I tried several of the soups and they were just too sweet for me and I didn't care for most of the sides. I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to food. Go figure.
