Should we Pixie Dust a cast member??

If Disney is anything like Universal and Sea World are, CMs are *NOT* allowed to accept monetary gifts or gifts of any value from guests. I doubt a "thanks o mint" would be a problem, but trying to slip them a few dollars or a gift card for a tip or something would be a no-no. If you really want to make them happy, stop by guest services at the end of the day and leave a guest comment, or write a letter to guest services with the names and specifics of what the CMs did to make your stay better.

:thumbsup2

That's the kind of pixie dust I bet most CMs would love.

I posted earlier in the thread, but I wanted to post again. My husband and I just moved into our new house. As we were unpacking the office, I came across the journal I kept during my time in the college program. In it, I had stored the cards that managers give us when we go above and beyond or when a guest has bragged on us a guest relations. It made my day all over again just reading them. Then, as I was reading various entries, when I came to one where I talked about special interaction with guests, it really made me smile. So, yes, I say that if a cast member goes above and beyond, give them a little pixie dust. This could mean just talking with them for a while and telling them how they are bettering your vacation or going to guest relations to brag on them. From personal experience, it will make a difference.

I just finished typing a letter to Disneyland on 2 of the wonderful CMs we encountered there recently.
I made sure I got their names, location and date of interaction. I sure hope both CMs get a copy of the letter and it'll help them in their career somehow.

Always make a point to ask them for a GSF card! You can fill this out right then and there and they will give it to a manager or ask you to. This is Disney's official way of recognizing good service!!

Thanks for the info!:)

I had always thought GSFs were for internal use only-I didn't know CMs could hand them to Guests.:)

As a former CM, we were told that people would try to give us tips, but to refuse 3x nicely, and then if the guest truly insisted that we had to accept it politely. Management did want us to turn it in because many CMs are not in tipped positions. However, the two times I did get tipped, I did refuse then accept after 3x. It was helpful, because I had forgotten my lunch those days and it kept me going through the day.

While working at GMR, I got a guest comment card which was posted on the breakroom wall. What was nice was that all the comment cards from guests across DHS got put into a raffle for tons of cool prizes. I ended up winning a TOT prize pack with a robe, towels, glassware, key chain and Do Not Disturb sign. It was a pretty cool little prize. I still use the glasses AND the robe!

But I agree, the BEST thing you can do is talk to guest relations or the manager - that usually gives best results. I always get the funniest reactions from the managers when I ask to speak to them regarding a CM, I think they are honestly taken aback when I tell them how good the CM is. Maybe they are expecting the worst?

Here you go.:)

Be as detailed as possible.:)

Will be noting CM name, time and location. If I can't make it to Guest Services because I am having such a fabulous time, I'll be sure to contact the appropriate authorities. I did adore our CMs in Norway when I talked to them about my own ancestry and Norway in general.

During DDs first college program she was friends with a fur character and many children drew pictures and brought them to the character as a gift. The drawings of course were not specifically intended for her but she treasures them! They are hanging on the wall of her bedroom. Now she is working as herself in EPCOT and I know she would still love something drawn by a child.
Easy and cheap!

When we were there I video taped them saying what they loved. They loved that and we had some really special interactions with this. This isn't all I did but it is some of the interactions. I just told them to say where they are originally from and why they love working at Disney.

Castmembers say what they love

I'm not sure what I'm going to tape this year. But I really want to do it again. Any question you've always wanted to ask? You can either keep it for yourself or let me steal it. :thumbsup2

We've also considered making our own Mickey gloves and all wear them and wave at the CMs as we walk in each morning but I'm yet to do that one.

At restaurants I show my love with my pocketbook, a nice tip is the best way of saying thank you.

And on rides if we are having a great time we include them, scream and cheer and have a fantastic time. It can't be fun to run a ride and see people with cranky faces.

Oh, and follow the rules. I break this one sometimes as I'm not good at remembering rules but whenever a CM has to tell me to not take a picture (I never can remember you can't take pictures in security :sad2:) I always feel so bad because they have to tell me and explain why. That can't be fun.

Oh, and they LOVE group shots. I like to have more than one CM in my photos. They love that. Who doesn't like getting their picture taken with their friends. And then show it to them. That's always a fun thing to do. And if they try to initiate and interaction with you, interact back. It's always lame to make a joke and have the person you are talking to pretend you don't exist.

I loved all of your sentiments. Your blog is beautiful! May I say that in the video, the first family shot with the tie dyed t-shirts I thought that the Mom (you?) was an older sister, she looked so youthful.

And that video made me cry hot tears more than once, and especially at 14:06 when the young teen boy talks about 'wonder'. Bravo!

For years DH and I have given out business size cards to deserving CM 's . I found them on the computer and they have little sayings about how they brightened our day. :yay: Just a little gesture to tell them that they exceeded their required duties and we noticed. Every one of them were really excited about receiving them. Gotta love those hardworking CM's.

I just sent an email about a cast member that went above and beyond for us on our last trip. Thanks for the address! :thumbsup2

Awww. You are so sweet. We just love CMs so much we wanted to do a video of them. I have had a VERY busy winter and spring and can't wait to write on my blog some more this summer.

I am glad I saw this. I have been thinking about giving the cast members a little something. I was thinking of mini candy bars but I was afraid they would melt in November. Then I thought of the mini packs of gum but they aren't allowed to gave gum right? Maybe mints would be best?

Thanks for the link to the thank you cards. They are perfect.
