We are cleaning out for a yard sale in a few weeks. My DSs are now 14 and 16. When they were younger, they collected Beanie Babies like most children. Well, now they are ready to sell them. We have over 100 of various kinds-retired, still made, McDonalds, etc. I am going to keep a few for my classroom, but the question is......

Do we sell them or not??? Are my kids really ever going to get them out of the attic for any reason?? Should we put one price for each (example $3 each or price retired ones more)?

DS looked on e-bay and some retired are asking for around $10, but I didnt look enough to see if that is what they are bringing in. I have never sold or bought anything on e-bay....should we go that route for something instead?? DSs can take care of the pictures and posting for that.

The other DS is having a sneezing fit from looking through them! :earseek:

I doubt your DS's will want these later on. However, if you're looking to make any real $ on them I would sell them at a garage sale. I don't think I'd pay more than 25-50 cents for one. However, on E-bay you will find collector that will pay much more than that especially for retired ones.

I'm 15, and i collected those for a WHILE, and i had quite a few... about 75 or so, i think. I guess that i would sell them, but maybe keep a few that i really liked incase i ever for some reason wanted to have them. Also, if all these were collected when they were younger (pre 2000) then they're probably all retired... so i guess i would suggest all one price, unless you priced the bears a little higher, since they tend to cost more.

Karen we have 80 of these and I was wondering the same thing. I checked EBay for a couple of "special' bears the girls have in plastic cases--the Princess Diana one and Erin bear--both retired--and no one was getting more than a couple of bucks out of them. I've had them at garage sales before and they barely move. I think we might have to store them for a few more years before they are worth anything.

I would hang on the Disney and any other pop culture ones. Adios to the rest:D

The new w/ tags and even sometimes gently worn ones are usually appreciated by Children's hospitals or other charities that work with children. You can donate them and probably get more for the tax deduction than you could at a garage sale.

I wish I could talk my 10yo DD out of hers.

I was going to throw out all my Barbies and stuffed animals awhile back ... My Mom ended up storing them ... she said "when you have children of your own how nice would it be to give them somethings you cherished when you were a little girl."

I sold mine at a garage sale last summer. I had about 60 of them. A guy bought the lot for $45.

I had no interest in them anymore.

The McDonald ones didn't sell at all - even @ 50 cents a piece!

When I had my garage sale last year I barely sold any of our Beanie Babies (I was kinda disappointed).

So.......my mom volunteers some of her time at a couple of nursing homes and she took them there. She said that they will be given out as prizes to the elderly people playing BINGO and then they put them on their wheelchairs and put them in their rooms. She said they really enjoy having their little stuffed animals and it brings a little color into their lives. So, if you are unable to sell them and you really want to get rid of them, call your local nursing home and see if they would be interested in having them donated to the elderly.:wave2:

And then she and all the rest of the friends and relatives buy her 50 stuffed animals and all the new Barbies anyway. I have stuffed animals coming out of my ears. I have banned large ones for gifts. :p

To the OP-I would donate them. :)

Unless it's super, super rare. They are hard to move at yard sales and on EBAY. It's a market that was just too flooded. I'd donate.

$2 is pretty much the going rate at garage sales around here. My dds each get $2 to spend when we go garage saling on Saturdays and beanie babies are usually what they buy. (We have a ban on getting anymore stuffed toys but my dd6's logic is that these aren't stuffed animals since they have "beans" not "stuffing".) :)
