We have dining reservations for 5:15 on Dec 21 at Sci Fi and I just realized that Fantasmic starts at 7:00. For some reason I thought it was at 8:00. Is there any chance we would make it to the show in time? If we got a FP, would we have a better chance? What time do you have to get there by with a FP?

Thanks!

In a word, no. FP for Fantasmic! does let you sit on the FP side, but it starts filling up just as early as the other side. Basically, with an FP you can pick from either side. Now, if you are not picky about your seat, I do believe an FP will guarantee your entry. Still, an FP for Fantasmic! is very easy to get as an extra after your first 3, so if you do think you want one, just snag it after you have used your others for the day and you should be okay.

The biggest concern with Sci-Fi is if they will seat you on time. The dining experience doesn't take that long, but they are not always great at meeting those ADR times.

You can easily get Fantasmic as a 4th FP. So use your first 3 then when you're heading to dinner grab it as your 4th. It doesn't necessarily mean you can show up late, but you get more choice in seating.

Dining package, FP, or standby..I recommend being there about 45 min early

Totally agree that you should get Fantasmic as a 4th (or 5th) FP and use your first 3 for other things. I was able to get 5 Fantasmic FP at 7:30 pm last week.

So even if we wait and get it as a 4th FP, what are our odds of seeing the show with a 5:15 reservation?

Depends on how long you take to eat. I'd show up to sci Fi at 5:10, hope to get seated quickly, then eat. Idk how long you take to eat but I'm usually out after about 45/60 min. This would put you out about 6:15/6:30.. And I think you could make it to Fantasmic in about a 10 min walk and get in. It'll be slim picking for seats but you should be able to get in

I'd do it another night honestly, probably with a fantasmic dining package as the seats were excellent for that. However, assuming that is not an option, I'm afraid you will be cutting it very close. Sci fi is one of the worst when it comes to seating. They are always backed up and further you will probably want an actual car and not a table with car ends around it. That can potentially take extra time. I would expect no less than 15-20 minutes to be seated which means 5:30pm at best. Dinner assuming you will have 5 as your signature says probably take at least an hour or more. Maybe a little less if you don't have dessert. Then you need to get to the other side of the park. Potentially doable but the seats likely won't be good.

If you have to choose one or the other, I'd choose Fantasmic and eat somewhere else earlier in the day. Fantasmic is amazing and not to be missed! :)

Why not try to move the dining reservation up by about 30 min or so? Surely there's still times available this far out for sci Fi

Wish I could. It's Christmas break and the end of free dining promotion. Reservations are long gone. I can try to keep checking though.

If you are concerned about whether you have enough time, do like we did.
1. See if you can check in a few minutes early. (There was a line to Check In when we went so it helped to be a little early anyway.)
2. Have everyone look over the menu before hand and make up their minds. That can save a lot of time.
3. Tell your server your trying to make Fantasmic and ask if you can have the check right away after being served.
However, don't rush so much that you can't enjoy the moment. If you are seated promptly you should be okay. A FP for the show would reduce your stress level I would think.
Good luck.

Good advice! Thank you!
