Hey there, Hi there, Ho there, hope your as happy as can be!! ::MickeyMo
I've been reading the tip boards about the transportation provided by disney if you stay on site. We(family of 4) are staying at the ASM resort the last week of June. I know, it's gonna be crowed, and our resort is the last to be picked up. SOOOOOO,,,,,, should we just drive ourselves to the parks each day, or should we go on the buses provided??
Just want to make sure we don't waist too much time in transportation, it is our fisrt time, and we have no idea what to expect. We do intend on hitting the parks early though.
Thanks for you help

I vote for using the buses. Yes, it will be crowded, but you should not wait too long for the bus. We went two years ago in June and never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus, except at MK when we stayed until closing. We were also at ASM.

Boardwalk was known for pretty bad bus service (end of the Epcot resort loop). While All-Star and Pop Century have excellent service. Generally Disney's bus service is excellent, but there will be the occasional delay . . .

We usually rent a car, because the convenience is worthwhile and getting to (and away from) the parks 10 minutes faster often makes a difference . . . On the other hand, nothing gets you to MK faster than a Disney bus direct from your hotel . . .

A few years ago, we treated ourselves to the Poly -- we didn't rent a car. No need to when we could walk 5 mins to the TTC where MK and Epcot are a direct monorail away. Of our 6 bus rides that week, one was notably delayed and one required us to wait the "full 20 mins".

Obviously, if you plan to eat or shop off-property or visit Universal, a car is necessary.

I'd say that if you have a car--use it!! Sure beats standing (possibly) on a Disney bus listening to some clod on his cell phone talking about next weeks golf outing!!
And it's so convenient. If you suddenly decide to do some shopping, get a bite to eat, etc, you can do that when you have a car.

We only use the MK bus. All other locations in WDW we drive to.

This is a tough one for me. I really enjoy the buses because they have a/c, there are no directions or signs to follow you can just hop on board and enjoy the ride. I don't mind waiting for the buses because the excitement is building and it's all just part of the magic of Disney. On the other hand All Star buses are very crowded and at night when you are tired it stinks to have to stop at all the resorts. With a car the great thing is being able to leave Disney. We do Universal and SeaWorld and we like to play mini golf and try new places to eat and cabs are very expensive. What I hate about a car is the parking. Its a million miles away and you have to get on a tram and then the monorail and if you have a stroller and lots to carry it can be a pain and what I really hate is if you want to take a break in the middle of the day when you get to the car it's 100 degrees and you can't even get in.

SOOOO, its a tough one. I say if you are not going to leave Disney then just uses the buses. They are free and worth the little droubles here and there, but if you plan to leave Disney then go for the car so you don't have to worry about cabs. Good Luck!!!

We've been to the World over 30 times, and sometimes have had our car with us, but never used it. To us, the traffic and roads are way too packed to navigate. People flying in all lanes like they are going to miss something. Also, I've seen the parking lots emptying out that were an endless sea of red tail lights going no where. Granted, you may have to wait 20 minutes for a bus or stand on one but to us, its part of the Disney experience and sometimes you might be on a bus with no one but you and the driver. They know the roads, its got A/C and gets you from point A to point B, alot quicker than I could drive, seeing that if I drove to WDW again, its 1200 miles and driving some more while on vacation, isn't why I go to WDW in the first place and stay on property for.

We are going the last two weeks in June and we are driving down. Once we arrive I don't plan on getting back into my car unless we need to hit the grocery store for more water, soda or snacks. We are staying at the WL and plan to use bus, boat or monorail the whole time. I too hate getting on that tram and trying to find your car in a huge lot after a long day at the parks. With the bus, just get on and enjoy the a/c, the ride and rest! :teeth:

Even though we rent a car when we go, we do not use it except for resort to resort travel. As already mentioned, you can't beat the bus to MK! I think it would be too much trouble parking, then getting on a tram, then waiting for either the ferry or monorail. MK bus drops you right near the entrance.
