Should Nerds Marry?

Boy, I sure hope Geeks are allowed to marry! My ds is a big engineering geek and I want grandchildren some day!

Gosh I was going to write the same thing except my son is heading into his 4th year at UDM, duo major in Accounting and Economics. He plays Halo on week-ends and still has his Star War collection with him in his apartment.:rotfl:

Yes. Idiots, on the other hand, should not be allowed to breed.

DH and I always say when nerds collide we create more nerds:rotfl2: Just ask my TNG loving, robot programing, science museum adoring 9 and 11 year olds:upsidedow I like being a nerd (though I am not a gamer) and I love the nerd I married and the nerds we created together:lovestruc

Nerds/Geeks make great spouses. They stay home and are usually gainfully employed. And you don't have to worry about them being hit on at work. Your offspring may have problems, though:

LOL - that's funny!

wvrevy - glad you like the ThinkGeek site - they've got some great stuff! :thumbsup2

I love the geek stuff on CafePress too. So many great shirts...

JennyMominRI, my DF is a big Doctor Who fan as well (Tom Baker was his favorite Doctor), so I got him a Tardis USB hub for Christmas. They have a sonic screwdriver too that I might have to get him for Father's Day.:)

That is a great proposal!!

Yea, geeks marry. I have a geek brother who is married and they are having their first geek child next month. We assume the boy will walk out of the womb with an advanced physics book in one hand and star wars figurines in the other. :rotfl:

Of course, many people call ME a geek because of a slight Disney obsession. So are we *really* the best people to be judging geek-itude. Pot... meet kettle. Kettle... this is pot.:lmao: People regularly call me adork when I mention how much we go to disney and that we were enaged there! The last song at our wedding reception was the ending to the Mickey Mouse Club. :hippie:

I love the "two negatives make a positive" theory! I'm not sure where in the spectrum I fall, but I majored in accounting in college. DH doesn't look like a nerd/geek etc. but he was an Eagle Scout, and yes he has "the knack". He's a contractor.

We have one daughter, and she certainly doesn't appear to be a D/N/G either, she's pretty and a talented dancer. But she does have some social skill issues and does a good job of hiding the fact that she is highly gifted. Her biggest leisure time activity, pre-boys, was writing blogs on a Harry Potter fanfic site. She still does that sometimes.

The funny thing is, she found another secret D/N/G, and he is currently her boyfriend. He's got model looks, and is a star soccer player. He also pulls A's in AP classes, has dorks for his closest friends, and in his spare time sets up marathon LAN sessions to play video games.

I guess the better question is, how could nerds NOT marry each other?

I say yes, but here's an article which says otherwise; basically it says that a lot of geeks are slightly autistic, and they are more likely marry each other (assortative mating). Since there is such a high concentration of geeks in Silicon Valley, the rates of Autism and Asperger's have gone up quite a bit there. (Starts about 1/2 way down the article)

"In another age, these men would have been monks, developing new ink for printing presses. Suddenly, they're reproducing at a much higher rate."

As mentioned in the article, it's widely assumed that Bill Gates has Asperger's Syndrome. Another person who is assumed to have AS is Albert Einstein. Make no mistake, this world needs its Geeks. Who do people think design our cell phones, TV's, cars, Playstations, computers, iPods etc? Geeks! The amount of computer hardware and software required to make a simple cell phone call is mind boggling, and took hundreds of thousands of man hours to develop. Being an engineer/Geek myself, I've always thought that, in terms of what engineers do for society, they should get more dates than they do. Alas, this is never the case. :confused3

Check cafepress...they've got tons of cool stuff. :thumbsup2

Also...how many people here watch "The Big Bang Theory" on Monday nights? I absolutely love that show. :lmao:

:thumbsup2 We LOVE that show! I told DH that he needs to stroll into the engineer's offices the next day singing the oompa-loompa song and see how many got the joke! :lmao:

:lmao: Don't'cha just love Leonard? :rotfl: Granted, you wouldn't want to live with him - or much associate with him in real life at all, for that matter - but in the context of the show, he's just hilarious. Funny thing is, I don't think he was supposed to become the center of the show, and that seems to be the direction they're moving. Not complaining, mind you, as I think he's got the most comic potential, and it differentiates the show from everything else out there, which it wouldn't have if it was just about the "connection" between his roommate and the girl across the hall.

If a "nerd" (a term I can't stand btw) getting married and hopefully having kids helps to reduce the number of stupid people out there then I'm all for it.

after reading this thread, I feel like running out and getting a pocket protector:scared:

What color? Try to find one with Darth Maul on it, they are the best!!:thumbsup2

Aw, I think it's cute! But that's probably the nerd in me popping out. I know people who play WoW that were proposed to online.

If you're into that sort of thing, you'd probably think it was great! Heck, I know married couples who are in the same guild and do raids. I think it's hysterical. I hope to reach that kind of dorky-intimacy one day. :lovestruc

Lol this fits me and my hubby to a T.. We are both WOW gamers we do quest, raids and just have an all around good fun on the game..

As for the proposal thou no...
We did meet online however through e-harmony...

Does this mean we are nerds..
Should I mention we are both lic. ham operators

Hey there. I'm a single geek looking for a nerd groom.
I really want a star wars themed wedding, but really just themed on episodes 1 through 3.
Padme's outfits are stunning and I'd like to incorporate several of them into my wedding gown. I'll most likely need to change for the reception since there are just too many good designs to choose from.
Perhaps even a different look for the rehearsal dinner.
If interested, please let me know!
Thank you!
