Lately my brother has been adamant on this particular issue, especially with Hercules being his favorite movie, and I'd like to see what other people think. He says that since Meg married the son of the most powerful being in the universe, that should give her royal status and thus a chance to be considered in the line of "Disney Princesses" (TM), with the merchandise and everything. Now, while I do agree with that reasoning and would love to see Meg thought of as highly as those other girls, I've tried explaining that she isn't considered an 'official' Disney princess for marketing reasons. Much as we both like her and even though she's clearly more unique and interesting as a character than some of the typical princessess (looking at you, Aurora), I believe that she's discluded because she's not the type of character usually marketed to the 8-12 year old kiddies, not as straightforward or obvious as the others.

Personally, I'd love to see a line of merchandise similar to the princess line but aimed at oldler kids/teenagers and featuring characters like Meg and Captain Amelia who are awesome but not really 'royalty'. Hmm, although they do consider Mulan a princess even though she's clearly not royalty... but then, again, I believe that was for marketing reasons. But I digress. Since the chance of a line of not-princesses happening is laughable at the moment, being considered a 'princess' is the next best thing, and characters who don't fit the criteria (and of course, their jilted fans) are pretty much cheated out of any merchandising and recognition at all.

What do you think? Should Megara be considered a Disney princess?

I thought that Megara was a princess in Greek mythology? I may be wrong, however.

Yes, Meg should be considered a princess because like you said Mulan is and she's not a princess. I like your idea of merchandise aimed for teens because who likes that little kiddy princess stuff. I havent liked that princessy stuff all my life because it pink and i dont like pink. They need to have other merchandise aimed for older kid/teens and have more colors than pink.

OMG. No because she is not a princess. Neither is Mulan, or Pocahontas, or Tinker Bell.

Meg's not a princess, but I don't think you have to an actual princess to be a part of the Princess line. I think Meg is a cute character and I'd buy merchandise with her on it. Disney Couture has some nice stuff out, but some of it is ridiculously expensive.

That's why it's called. Couture.

Yes.

As someone stated above me, Meg was the daughter of a king in Greek Mythology.

Also, Zeus is the king of the gods. Ergo, Herc is a prince of the gods. Ergo, Meg is a princess.

She can also sing very well.

And Pocahontas is a princess. Daughter of the chieftan. A chieftan is pretty much a king (correct me if I'm wrong).

It doesn't matter. He wasn't a "king". So she is technically not a princess.

I love it how Disney sugarcoats things. I went into school thinking Pocahontas was a skinny little chick who sung a lot and talked to animals.

All technicalities aside, most animated female characters with a major role in a movie could be marketed as "Princesses".

They are. That's how Disney markets them.

But Disney likes to sugarcoat things. It's not always a bad thing in today's world.

Since the definition of princess is (yes I looked it up!)
prin·cess–noun
1. a nonreigning female member of a royal family.
2. History/Historical. a female sovereign or monarch; queen.
3. the consort of a prince.
4. (in Great Britain) a daughter or granddaughter (if the child of a son) of a king or queen.
5. a woman considered to have the qualities or characteristics of a princess.

I guess that means that they all are princesses but by my book they arn't technically. I am not so sure that Belle, Mulan, Meg, and Snow White(???).
