The movie came out in 2007. Contract negotiations probably in 2004-2005. It was a different time back then, different people in charge. Also merchandise wasn't as big back then as it is now. Maybe Disney didn't expect Enchanted to do well to invest in merch. It was more a rom com than really aimed at young children. My understanding is that the main actress had it in her contract that nothing of her likeness could be used by Disney-no dolls, princess Giselle in the parks, t-shirts, etc. But even as I'm writing this, I just can't believe Disney would allow this clause. It just baffles me that there's no acknowledgement of that movie anywhere.
What surprises me more is that, if it was a big Hollywood star making such a demand, I can see Disney say 'sure, but if you do it, we can share the merchandise profits.' Amy Addams had done some smaller parts until then. Catch Me If You Can, by Spielberg was her first biggest movie, The Wedding Date with Debra Messing, but she wasn't a big star yet to make such a demand. I wonder if she did the negotiations on this herself, or if her manager did it? Either way, well done.
