Should I update room only res to package?

I had booked a Feb 2017 room only reservation a few weeks back. We know we want to add tickets and dining. Now that package rates are out is there any benefit to update the reservation at this point or should I just wait until discounts are out in the fall in case we change the reservation anyway? Guess I'm just trying to figure out if it matters.

It matters in two ways.
1) Discounts are used as a method to fill rooms. So if you book now your room is booked and does not need a discount to fill it. Multiple that by many, and prebooking can result in fewer discounts being offered.
2) Availability - If you don't book now while your choice of resort is available it is very possible it could be full and not available with a discount when the discount are released. So if you have your heart set on dates and the resort, I would consider what it would mean to me if I could not book it later.

It doesn't make a difference when you change as a room discount can be applied (pending availability) to the room portion of a package, but it's not as easy as just updating and adding tickets/DDP to your existing RO reservation. If/when you do change, the RO will have to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring a new deposit of $200. Since RO and packages are different reservation systems, money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other.
