Should i try out bonine before the cruise to see side effects?

I think I'll stick with the bands and also try the motionease and ginger things. Thanks everyone!
Try the bands out at home for several hours. I found out I wasn't able to wear them for more than an hour or so due to the pressure. Whatever you opt to use, don't wait until you are on board to try for the first time.

Definitely try it first! When taking the oral meds, I could sleep for three days! Not how I want to spend my cruise. If it makes you sick or groggy, ask your doctor to prescribe the patch for seasickness.....way less side effects. But, I would still say try it out for a day or so as well prior to cruising. Have fun!

Absolutely! It's best to try out a medication such as that in case you find it ineffective or the side effects too much to handle.

For me, bonine (even though advertised as non-drowsy) knocks me out. I can't take it and enjoy my cruises. Although I don't get seasick on cruise ships, I do on smaller vessels. For those times, I get my PCP to prescribe me Scopalomine, a small patch that you put behind your ear. The patch delivers the medication transdermally, and I find its side effects bearable. (It dilates the pupils making eyes more sensitive to light and it dries your mouth out quite a bit. For me, it caused minimal drowsiness). If you opt for the match, I recommend you give it a test run, as there can be pretty rare, but more serious, side effects.

My whole family uses Bonine for motion sickness. I've used it for years and it never makes me sleepy. Ever.

My motion sickness got worse after my second baby and I now use the patch when I cruise. It works very well and I find the dry mouth is worth feeling great when I cruise. It just means I drink plenty of water when I travel. :)

Edit: I've tried the ginger - it actually made me nauseous. And the sea bands don't work for me either. Experiment before you go and take several alternatives.

I take Bonine the morning of the cruise and every day of the cruise. The first 24 hours it does wipe me out. I tend to be very sensitive to drugs. But by the next day I am fine. So for example if I took a Bonine on Sunday morning. Sun night by dinner I start feeling groggy, I sleep very well, take Bonine Monday morning, am a bit groggy Monday, but by Monday evening I am good and am fine the rest of the cruise taking Bonine each morning.

I am totally fine on little boats in rough water. I have serious seasick issues on cruise ships. I actually do better the more rough it gets. It is something to do with the subtle motion that messes me up.
