Should I take my family to Disneyland Paris

Hey all,

We got to Walt Disney World for 2 weeks every year. I have 2 girls 8 and 11. We LOVE Disney. We are headed to Paris for a week. We will be 3 miles from Disneyland. Is it worth it to pay almost $300 for the four of us to go to DLP for a day?

I'd say yes. :) I certainly couldn't be 3 miles from a Disney park and not visit.

It's a lovely park and its fun to see the differences.

Make sure you stay till late and watch Dreams.

It's definitely worth it.

I like WDW and DLP, for different reasons but it's too close to where you are to not take advantage.

Do I have to live in Europe to get those prices? I am from the US and having trouble reading the different options, lol.

My daughter bought our tickets in a Disney store, admittedly here in England, but paid the same price as those on the first website. One day, two parks for £50.00. I thought that was dead cheap compared with the price of the two US parks.

Pam

I got my tickets online from the DLP website. $75 for 1-day, 2-park tickets. This was cheaper than discount sites even for a 1-park ticket.

When I went with friends in March, my friends bought their 1 day 1 park tickets through fnacspectacles (link already posted above) for 35 Euros each. They don't live in Europe and don't speak French, but still managed to get their print at home tickets!

Looking at the fnacspectacles website it seems there is currently a flash sale - looks like you can get a 1 day 2 parks ticket for 35-39 Euros if visiting between 6 July-7 November (except for 13 July and dates between 19 October and 3 November)...

I've been to DLP twice and even though I wasn't that crazy about it, there is no way I'd be 3 miles away without stopping in.

If you love Disney, do yourself a favor, give this park a miss.

(sorry that sounds harsh, but if you've only known Disneyworld, you might be up for a big let down ...)

that does sound harsh :confused3.

Even I think that sounds harsh!

It's a lovely looking park, with great rides and awesome theming.

I'd stop in if I was 3 miles away!

Sure, it doesn't have all the magic of WDW but it does have some of that Disney feel.

My friend just got back from visiting all 5 parks and still says DLRP is her favourite so not everyone thinks the same.

I think if you've been to WDW before, then you need to set your expectations before you arrive at DLRP.

Do not expect the level of customer service and enthusiasm from the CM at Paris that you probably take for granted at WDW - its no where near WDW level at Paris.

Do not expect the maintenance of the park to be of the same level either.

Finally do not expect the same level of entertainment - eg Streetmosphere/shows. It just isn't there at Paris.

DO expect unique rides - as well as different themes to rides you already enjoy at WDW

DO expect what most regard as a far more beautiful park at Paris than WDW (although lack of maintenance is really starting to have a negative affect on this in my opinion).

yes my statement was harsh but I didn't elaborate, cause I already did on another thread and I didn't want to go into DLP bashing mode, but I might just do that now for clarity

as Pp said don't set your expectations too high

here is what you find at DLP currently, so you can compare to what you're used to in WDW

- not a single stage show, not one. except for playhouse disney live on stage (yes even the name of the TV channel as not been updated and neither was the show. it's 2 versions behind DHS

- no nightly parade

- a grand total of 6 characters to meet, plus additional ones now and then with no line organized. it's war for a picture with a character

- main street stores closed until 1pm

- restaurants closed at 7pm for most of them. the other serve frozen items

- rides in such a poor state that in the last 2 weeks most headliners were down for a sizeable amount of time everyday, and were all down at the same time at some point

- an accident occured again a few days ago. as a result a lot of roofs over guest areas had to be secured with ropes

. space mountain is in such a bad shape (cracks in the tracks among other things) that the ride gets so rough you need a chiropractor when you get off (I'm not even kidding here)

- rides are in a very poor state. One example is Phantom Manor where 30% of the ride's 230 effects are not working properly or not working at all (source for this is Phantom Manor cast members)

- and the park is often packed wall to wall. no char acter, no shows, no street or sideshows and rides in 101 sttate (stopped) try to imagine the effects on lines ( being an AP holder
I often say that out of 35+ visits in 1 year I only ever managed to ride big thunder mountain 8 times including 3 times in one day. all other visits had the ride out of service or ridiculous lines and no FP

and I could go on forever like this with figures and proofs

and I haven't even begun to talk about rude CMs, rude guests, rude guests smoking in lines, CMs not bothering to enforce the rulew ( I even saw one chatting with a guest who smoked in motors line ...
I really could rant away like this forever and I wouldn't even begin to exagerate

pricing policy is also appaling. you may not realise that currently French guests can get tickets for as low as 21euros that's a little over £15 or $27 per person and no one here is willing to pay more than that for a 1 day 2 park (=hopper) ticket when you get tickets for £46 with a discount or 74 euros ($96) at the gate

other than that the park is beatiful, if you don't look too closely at the paint or fallen resin stones and if you're there to see some flowers and landscaping

don't misunderstand me, it's still a good park to visit, but when you come from disneyworld, after the sticker shock you'll get the ''emptiness'' shock

and if you think my posts are harsh, just consider that they're just the insider's view on the park
you might not notice all of the above on your visit, but what is listed above is just what goes on on an average day, july 2013, wether you notice it or not when you're in the park

This board must have calmed down a lot because I gave similarly scathing reviews after my visits in 2004 and 2010 and I got absolutely destroyed. I do not disagree with a single thing you mentioned.

Edit: To the OP, if you do decided to go to DLP do not pay the extra money for a hopper because even the most hard-core Disney fan would be disappointed in the Studios Park. I have to assume chmurf and/or anthony2k7 could probably write an equally long post about the shortcomings of the Studios park.

I don''t think the board has calmed down.
I think the global decrease in quality and offerings is starting to sink in. And guests begin to realise that what's said, even though highly negative, is based on pure hard facts which are measurable and quantifiable.
But still, guests will have a hard time accepting it. Because it's like accepting the fact that a loved one is receding due to illness. There is a denial phase where we still wish to believe that everything is going to be alright.

Many guests remain optimistic. Especially those who never knew the park at his golden age ('92 - '95) or don't know what a Disney park really looks like (US parks for example)

Try to imagine we're on the bus. And you notice that the driver is going too fast and WILL hit a wall you can see in the distance.
You yell "hit the brakes", and there will be people on the bus who will yell back "let him do the driving, he knows what he's doing" ... but if they looked closer, they'd notice there's nobody at the wheel ...

and that's the saddest part.

Op here. Since we are on a pretty tight budget, I think I will save my $200. We will visit their downtown Disney and check that out for free. Thanks everyone

Better than that maybe have lunch or dinner in the Disneyland Hotel. You'll get a view of the park and if you have the buffet dinner characters will be there. X

Michael, you could have knocked me down with a feather when I read this! :goodvibes

I wouldn't waste the money and the time spent travelling to see just Disney Village - if you come just for this you'll be sorely disappointed. IMO either buy tickets for the parks or else spend your time/money in Paris.
