Should I take my DD's Blankie with us?

My 2yo loves her blanket. She always wants it if she is tired or upset. I really don't want to lug that thing around (it is approx. 3 feet squared) and I *hope* that she will be so into DL that she won't miss it. I always cringe at the thought of the meltdown that could occur if she wants it (and I know she WILL get tired because she normally takes a good sized nap every day.)

Should I leave it in the car and hope for the best, or take it just to be safe? I've never had anything taken from my stroller at DL before- do you think her blanket would be okay if we left it in the stroller while we are on rides?

The thought of carrying around a blanket in the heat makes me want to pass out!

We never had any problems with anything being taken from the stroller before, but some other posters here have. It is all up to you. I will be bringing a blanket for DD when we go. When there last year we had to buy one for her as it got really cool the one night we were there. It will be nice if she falls asleep in the evening and can cuddle up to that in the stroller.
You also know your daughter. If it will help her in the long run, then any inconveniance for you may just be worth it.

Will she just pass out in the stroller because she is tired or will she want you to hold her so she can fall asleep? My kids always seem to pass out in the stroller just when we are heading to do something they particularly want to do.

We have taken a blanket into the park with us and were glad we did. DS fell asleep in the stroller for like 4 hours and it was weird weather, a little cool and breezy and then warm and sunny. We compromised by putting the blanket over the top of the stroller to keep out the breeze and the sun. And then it sprinkled a little so we were glad he had the blanket to keep out the sprinkles.

Have you thought about going back to your hotel for her to have a nap? We have never stayed close enough before, so that wasn't an option for us and our kids will sleep in the stroller, so it has worked out well for us in the past.

We're just going for the day, so no hotel for a break.

I have a 4yo and my 2yo, and we are taking an umbrella stroller and a regular stroller (with the hopes that if she naps, she will nap in the regular stroller.) My 4yo doesn't take naps anymore, so the umbrella stroller is for her.

We only use strollers at Disneyland- ever. And we only go once a year, so the chances of her falling asleep in the stroller are very slim. If she gets tired, she is going to want me to hold her, and she is going to want her "soft."

I'm thinking we will take it. Better to be safe than sorry. I really need to get a replacement, duplicate blanket. Besides lugging it around, it would be tragic if it got stolen!

I always took my daughter's blankie to DL. It sure was a nice thing to have when she got tired, because that was all she wanted. However, we were shopping at the World of Disney Store in DTD and lost it there. Many tears happened when she realized it was gone. There were several Disney Store employees looking all over for it, and eventually it was found! After that, I always kept it in a large shoulder bag that I brought so I could keep tabs on it.

A baby's blanket would probably be the last thing anyone would steal. I mean, they are usually pretty gross.

I am one of the few that have had our stroller "taken" at DL. We have taken it numerous times before and at WDW. It was at night and parked outside of Buzzlight year in the stroller parking. After filing a report and then returning back to the park, we enjoyed the rest of the evening. As we left DL, we found the stroller near the entrance (inside the gate). The name take we had on it was gone and backpack in the basket was missing. A few days after arriving home, our backback was sent to us by Disney. Everything was still in it (Clothing, toys), except for the banana (which I assumed Disney threw out). The luggage tag was missing from backpack.

I am sure the intent was to take the valuables and dump everything else in the bushes that wasn't valuable. So...if you do take something like that that she must have, I would carry it in your purse with the rest of your valuables.

If you could find another could you cut off a smaller piece, i.e. 12" square, that could be the "baby" special blankie. Less to lug around and then you wouldn't have to worry about losing the big one. I would be more worried about losing the big one for good -- as well have all experienced, there is no reasoning with a tired, cranky toddler.

Don't do it!! My DD was SO attached to her teddy (can't count how many nights I had to drive back to her daycare at bedtime because she left it there and was hysterical). So we thought we would take teddy with us on our first trip (not to DL, Mexico) and were convinced that teddy would be attached to her at all times. Well, as we were stepping off the plane a flight attendant ran up to us with her teddy...WE LEFT IT ON THE SEAT! We still don't know how, but if she's attached like that, I would get her to choose a new "thing" to take as a substitute. I know it's hard, but just think how devastated you'll be if it gets left behind somewhere. And keep reminding your little one that blankie will be there when you get home, safe and sound.

My DS has a blanket as well and wants it whenever he's upset or tired. It's one of those typical satin on one side blankets. I also have a blanket animal head, you know those baby "woobies" that have the little stuffed animal head (often a rattle inside) with a little blanket coming out the bottom? Much smaller! Well that's satin too, so we take that "on the go" and it seems an acceptable substitute (HAS to have the original blanket at home though!). We are REALLY on top of keeping track of it though and have never left it behind (as if our life depends on it!). He won't sleep in a stoller, but that blanket has saved us some meltdowns throughout the long day.

If I were you, I'd leave the big blanket in the car and bring a substitute in the park. If she won't take anything else, take the big blanket in. You'll be glad you did and so will she!

The answer to that question would be all I would need to make the decision.

I have a 2 year old dd who is very attached to 3 or 4 of her blankies. We made sure one of them was in the stroller when we took her last year. When she got tired or upset we handed her the blanket and all was good in her world once again, and the rest of us could continue enjoying our trip.

I would for sure take it! I don;t think anyone would steal a baby blanket.

I think the point is not that someone would steal the blanket, but that it would get stolen or lost if the entire stroller is taken, or if it was placed in a bag that someone decided to snatch looking for something valuable.

I really liked the idea the other poster said of the "baby" blankie. Or maybe try a "Disney buddy" that goes to the park while the blankie stays in the hotel.

One thing I thought was clever was a tip in the Unofficial Guide to DL. It said strollers with an odd personal item tied to the handle are less likely to be taken. Like an old sock. This is especially true with the rented strollers where some people feel entitled to use it because it really belongs to DLR. One family put a diaper in a clear plastic bag, poured some soda on it, and tied it to the handle. No one stole that stroller!

Maybe you could rent a locker to put it in on Mainstreet? That way it would be much closer than all the way back in the car. By the way, my little guy has no idea that both his blankie and favorite bear have a double!

My DD had a big and little version of her favorite blanket. The big one stayed in the car so it wouldn't get lost and the little one went everywhere she went. That was the best thing my Aunt ever made her.

They sell her "soft" at Babies'R'Us- it is one of those super soft ones with satin trim... I've been meaning to buy another one ($20) because getting that thing into the wash is next to impossible. I think I will buy the duplicate and leave the new one in the car, just in case the original disappears at DL. I spoke with Dh about this tonight, and he is willing to carry her soft around in his backpack all day until she needs it- he is not willing to chance having it get stolen because he knows how attached she is...

Oh, and ITA with how nasty baby blankets are- because of how infrequently I can sneak it away to get it washed, hers often has a lovely maple-syrup-urine smell If anyone stole it, they would regret it pretty soon! LOL

Mine figured it out after our last DL trip!! I took one big one for the hotel and the small one for the diaper bag. When I got back home, I threw the big one in the wash and gave him its twin for bed that night. He cried and cried that it was WRONG! He kept feeling it and we couldn't figure it out. They are a shade of blue apart (my DH can't even tell!), but it didn't seem to matter the color. I finally got the DL blanket out of the dryer, held both twin blankets in front of DS and asked which he wanted. He felt DL one, then felt the other, and back to DL one! Upon examination, we determined the grain of the satin runs opposite ways on my "twin" blankets! And he decided during our DL vacation that he only wanted the grain ONE WAY! So much for my brilliance in buying two blankets!

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I so remember that maple-syrup urine smell from my DS's blanket!! Yep, trying to squeeze it away at naptime when he was good and asleep was the only way to wash it. He still slept with it till he was about 6, and he just plain got too tall for it.

I say, bring it and carry it around. Better a happy kid than a meltdown! It's worth the hassle of carrying it, it really is.

I wouldn't. Although I've never allowed my son to take his blankie anywhere we weren't sleeping. He just knows that's the rule. Even at 4, he needs that blankie to sleep every night. I think now we would probably be ok, but a year ago no way was he sleeping without it. It's crocheted and not replaceable. Honestly, if we got to the point of meltdown, then we would leave the park.
