Quick background staying beginning of Aug. 2011
I havent told disney yet, but we will be celebrating DD birthday and 10 th anniversary. DS -5 .... DD 7/8

We currently booked at POP, is it worth with the new discount to switch to WL.
I calculate it be a $54 more a night for 9 nights. Not like we are rolling in it, but first family vacation to disney so I want to be as special as possible.

PS I was also doing dinning plan, so not sure if any free dinning will be out later in month.
Thanks.

Update:
I decided it was worth it to change. So I made the change tonight. I called the Disney #, and for some reason the CM couldnt make the change. So i cancelled and redid it on the website.

So in effect moved from the POP to WL for difference in 479 for 8 night/9day stay. 9 day tickets + reg dinning.

Thanks for putting me over the edge to push the button.

it will only be $57 (or whatever you said close to that) more? It comes out to that for me.... we upgraded from Pop to WL too. You do realize that WL is only 25% off while other deluxe resorts are 30% off. unless maybe you have a pin? We first upgraded to POFQ from Pop and it cost about $400 more for our 7 nights and then to upgrade to WL from there it was a little over $200 additional. So we spent about $600 to upgrade from Pop to WL or $85 more a night. I do think it is worth it. The WL is beautiful and has a great location. We were at Pop last year in May and it was so crowded and the busses were very crowded too so I think WL will be better. We will going in July!

If it were me, I'd upgrade to WL. But be forewarned - if you do book WL you will be hooked! It is sooo beautiful.

Our first family trip to Disney was meant to be a once in a lifetime trip. We planned on booking Port Orleans. Well, the CM on the phone talked me into WL and now we are planning our fourth trip and can only stay at the Deluxe hotels. We loved it there so much.

Would definately be worth it to me. Stayed at a Value once and never again. Stayed at Wilderness Lodge and it is by far my favorite resort. The boat ride to the Magic Kingdom was great. Either way you'll love your stay, but my vote would be for WL.

I completely agree, I can't imagine staying anywhere besides Disney's "Lodges". In November it pained us to not stay at WL, but they didn't have the room type we wanted at a discount, and we now love AKL just the same. WL is a gorgeous resort and we still call it home.
If I was in your position, I would certainly upgrade, because for $84 a night, and for the things you're celebrating, it's worth it. Oh, and make sure to tell Disney you're celebrating, they love to celebrate! (:

I say yes. We just upgraded to WL for our August trip. It was only a $300 difference between the non-discounted room at POP and a discounted standard room at WL. We haven't stayed at WL before, but it seems worth the extra $300 to upgrade!

If you wait, you take the risk that the room category (like standard) you want might not be available later. On the other hand, if you really want free dining (that's IF it even comes out), you'd lose the room discount at WL by switching over to free dining. For us, free dining isn't as important as being able to go deluxe, but that's something that you have to decide for yourself. Again, assuming that free dining will even become available to the general public.

What discount are you referring to? We are booked under the kids stay and play free but I'm still looking for a better discount!

how was it only $300 more? for my 7 nights in july with the 25% discount it cost about $600 more to upgrade... just wondering.

I'm not positive, but I believe room rack rates are a little lower in August compared to July. I also factored in the cost of renting a fridge at POP while the fridge is already included at WL. And, we're going with a standard room at WL. If we had gone with POP, we would have gone with a preferred room. So maybe that's where the differences are coming in? :confused3 Anyway, I priced out a non-discounted preferred POP room plus tickets on the Disney website, and then a standard discounted room at WL plus tickets. The difference was just a bit over $300. The difference shrank to less than a $100 when I priced out CBR versus WL. (We're staying 7 nights with 7 day park hoppers.)

I would do it! And I'd do it soon because that resort (like Pop) fills up quickly.

We're such bad enablers here!

I did it, switch made... Since I did that, I am sure a free dinning plan will come out, more work for me.

I was going to say to upgrade to WL. Looks like you agreed! :goodvibes It is an awesome resort. We stayed for 2 nights at a villa on our last trip. The location is great and the resort is awesome! :thumbsup2
