Should I sell some BWV pts for VGF pts?

Thanks - I am still mulling it over. The bottom line is that DVC in general is not the most economical choice. As we all know the bottom line is what something is worth to you. So while doing the buy/sell does not make the most sense money-wise, it brings value in other ways. Lots to think about. When I look at what it would cost me to rent those VGF points for a few nights each year (or pay rack rates!) and the hassle of trying to get it at exactly 11 months out through a 3rd party, it seems to make a lot of sense to add-on or buy/sell, but then again it is a LOT of $$ :)

Stay there first. I did. Now I don't want to buy it so much.

Also, you can get a room at 7 months. Especially the one bedrooms. Using your cheaper BWV points.

You can check availability online and get an idea of what might be available when you want to go.

The resort is absolutely beautiful, no doubt, and I will occasionally get a room there.

That said, I would never give up the convenience of my BWV points. David's rentals have just announced a premium price for them. That combined with availability at 7 months is enough for me not to buy in at Grand Floridian.

There will always be Grand Floridian points for sale, same as each and every resort. There's no hurry to buy, in my opinion.

Interesting thoughts, thank you. I did stay there in March and really enjoyed it, but honestly, 2-3 nights would be my max there most years. I enjoy being on the MK monorail loop and watching fireworks from BLT tower lounge, being able to walk back to my room for Narcoosees ( one of my favorite restaurants at WDW) etc etc. However I would NEVER give up most of my BWV points. Being able to walk to Epcot and HS and stroll along the boardwalk is amazing. However, I was under the impression that VGF would be impossible to book at 7 mos out. Is this not true? Even in looking a rack rates from Disney direct for early next year in a slow time (late. Jan, early Feb) , there was almost no availability, so it makes me wonder......

We are just guessing how difficult it will be to book VGF at the 7 month mark after it is sold out. We do know that it is getting harder to book a studio for either view at the 7 month mark. Since you only want two or three nights you might be okay at the 7 month mark. Because only 2 days or 3 days here are there seem to be available even at the 7 month mark. Whether that availability will continue is an unknown. Despite what the flier said, per wdrl's article on the DVC News, only 70% of the resort's points are sold through October. It might take longer to sell out than they are hinting at, but I expect a price increase will occur before DVC starts to sell the Poly. They did that with BLT before VGF opened.

In early October I had to cancel a food and wine trip at BWV. I rebooked those points to Jan and Feb and at that time, 4 months out there was GFV availability because I booked a couple of nights. Then I cancelled them, when I was able to get BWV standard view. Imagine that - had to wait for BW but GF was available. I have a split stay still for BWV - I need one additional night and I check all the resorts when I search daily. Of course I also have a waitlist.

Not saying it's easy, but last year I was able to book 4 nights at GFV in Feb by just checking often.

Great - thanks everyone. I have decided to hold off and see how the VGF availability goes over the next year or two. If I really feel I can't live without it I'll look into resale a few years down the road :)

It is my opinion that these type of resorts will be the easiest to book starting 2-3 yrs after sell out. It's not that VGF will ever be easy but I see that as the easiest time. When the poly opens it likely will help only slightly. The reason is that I feel the interest in booking early and those extra points thrown around for new purchases far overwhelms the few extra points available as a result of declared but unsold inventory.

Very good point and makes sense. Also, all the current DVC owners who want to try VGF out at least once (like I did in March). Thanks to everyone for all the great information and advice. I am usually pretty conservative financially and plan my decisions out well in advance, but that darned postcard almost made me make a very impulsive purchase which I think I would have regretted. Have to give credit to DVC marketing though - they almost got me :)

I think VGF will always be harder to get into as it is a small resort at a great location. It is similar to BCV in this manner.

My personal feeling is that size is of minor importance compared to inherent demand, same for BCV. And the reverse is true for resorts such as SSR where size is not a major factor in the availability but the inherent demand.

Another option is to rent points to to book at 11 months at VGF and if successful, just rent out the equivalent BWV points. There is probably only a $3-4 difference in prices, so that $160 purchase price would cover a lot of those.

If that doesn't work try and book at 7 months and just take your chances.

I thought about doing the same thing at least 3 times and each time the dollars didn't make sense to me. And that was after really enjoying our stay at the VGF.

There are reports of owners not getting VGF studio ressie on the first day of the 11 month booking availability . This tells me it will be extremely hard to book at 11 months for owners never mind at 7 months. How bad do you want to stay there?

Going to go with Plan B at this point. For the times I would like to stay at VGF for a few nights during a week I will book BWV for whole week and try my luck at 7 mos out for VGF. If there is a time I really need to be at VGF I will rent the points from an owner and then rent out equal number of BWV pts to offset. I'll try this for a few years and see how it goes before I decide on buying a resale.

Sounds like a plan, VGF, BWV, and VWL are our favorite home resorts.

Sounds like a good plan, one I'll probably follow myself.
