Should I or shouldn't I

I need some voices of reason.

My DS is a CM until end of December or early January until the NYC WOD store closes and unfortunately would be out of a job (he is in college). So should I take advantage of my last shot of a 15% cast member discount and purchase 60 points at BW or BC (if available) or should I say enough. We have 260 points at SSR as I just added on an additional points just a few months ago.

My plan would be to use these points for a studio for 5 nites in october.

I would finance the 60 points with the plan of having everything paid off in 4 years (hopefully).

What would you do????:confused3

Thanks

Well, how's every thing else looking? emergency funds etc. He's out of a job so is he planning on just concentrating on school or is he going to be looking for work? Job market sucks royally right now.

I can say I'd hold for right now. You've got a nice chunk of points and Disney isn't going anywhere in the next 4 years.

if you've looked at the 2010 pt charts, you'll need at least 65pts per year going forward...maybe more by 2011 or 2012...so take that into consideration.

It really depends on your other finances right now and whether or not this would be within your comfort range.

But....if it were me, I'd personally do it. I'm a "live for now" kind of person, and the financing on 60 points wouldn't be that much, for us.

Give it alot of thought, work out your budget for the upcoming few months including the new points, and don't forget about the cost of that extra vacation every year;), as well as the MF.

Good luck with your decision.

Oh, also, I'd buy one 30 point contract and one 35, it's easier to sell off smaller contracts (not that a 65 point contract would be too difficult), if needs be.

Have a good day.

Back when my son was a CM I was so tempted to buy in because of the discounts offered, but I stuck to my plan and bought in when a great deal was offered at AKV.

I think I got the best deal going and was glad I didn't over extend myself too early.

Do what you think is right for your budget.

My gut reaction was DO IT DO IT......but then again 4 years of financing might cancel out the discount. I would do what the others said.....crunch the numbers...see where you are financially, but I would probably say "what the heck and do it" :rotfl:

Since you already have points, I would say wait until you have the money to buy. 15% discount is nice but the interest will eat that up during the 4 years.

If I were you, I'd wait. And then look at a resale to add to your points. It will cost less and you won't have the CM-strings on the purchase.

Since your DS's job is ending, I would not purchase anything right now. It's not like you don't already have some points. And you won't know how long it will be before your DS gets another job. Until he gets a new job, will you be supporting him?

Besides even with the 15% discount, the price would not be that much better than resale. Of course you'd have to come up with your own financing. Truthfully I'd never finance 60 points anyway. I'd save my money and pay cash later.

Addonitis is really had to resist but sometimes it's better if you do not give in to it.

My feeling is if you can't afford to pay cash for 60 points, you probably shouldn't be buying it at this time.

Sorry to hijack your thread but I thought the WOD store in NY was moving to Times Square....not closing....PLEASE tell me....I will be sooo upset if it is just closing....and will need to make one last trip.

I have noticed that who people ask for advice is often an indicator of what they really want to do. For example, when a friend came to me for advice about whether or not to adopt a baby (knowing that we almost adopted and still consider doing so sometimes), I knew that she would not have come to me specifically if she thought I might say not to adopt. Therefore, she already had her answer. Since you came to the DIS Boards, which way did you expect the response to go? There's your answer.

Another trick I have used is flipping a coin. It's not that I like to leave major life decisions up to chance. Rather, once I get heads or tails, I have a reaction to that news, either positive or negative, which tells me which way I should go.

I hope this helps!

The WOD store is closing. They are trying to oepn up a Disney store in times square but as you know the disney store has horrible merchanides and nothing like what the WOD has.

Hopefully they prove me wrong. Also its not set in stone yet as they have not announced that they even have space yet.
