I was at work today chatting with some co-workers. We have a tendency to tease a certain one about how "old" he is (he really isn't, but he is the oldest in his group). Well he said that he was 36 and I said "Wow!!! You are old, you are 10 years older than I am!!!!" (joking of course) and he replied back, "You are 26?!?!" He seriously thought I was older than that. He said it isn't because I look older, he just thought that I was about 30 or so. So now I am sitting here and wondering, should I have felt insulted that he thought I was older or is that a compliment  :)

I think he just thought you acted more mature than 26. Take it as a compliment. I haven't seen 26 for 29 years. Now thats OLD. LOL

Could it be that he was teasing you back?

Even though he and I tease each other a lot, this was one time he was totally serious about it, Laurie.

Oh and just so you all know, no matter what I am not upset by what he said, just a bit shocked honestly and amused :)

I agree with Pokie, I don't think he was insulting you, you are just mature, but you look young (you'll appreciate that in years to come!) :)

Take it as a compliment, Elaine. He just thinks you are extremely wise and mature!:D

This is why I refuse to guess someone's age. I made the manager at the drug store mad last year when it was his birthday and I thought he was 38, when he actually had just turned 27!

Then I agree, he was complimenting you on your maturity. Besides, it's not as if 30 is old. ;)

Elaine, at your age it's maturity that makes a person guess you older and at MY age it's the gray hairs, wrinkles and sagging body parts that make people guess me at around a 100!!!:jester: :bounce:

The older I get the more everyone seems the same age to me. Most folks from mid-20's to mid-50's seem to blur together. Now, when I was 21, I thought a 28 year old was just about ready for retirement. ;)

I would take it as a compliment that you aren't seen as a "kid" but as a peer.

If someone said to me they thought I was 30, I would take it as a compliment. :teeth:

I agree withthe above, take it as a compliment. To me, you have a young look. It's been some time since someone took me for 30, LOL. :)

Elaine, you look about 15. :) I wouldn't pay him any mind.

You do act mature, though, so I can see why he thought you were a bit older. But you definately look young!

I don't think it was a compliment or an insult. It's probably just based on your maturity. Are you by chance relatively senior for your age at work? That used to happen to me all the time. I was a high level manager by the time I was 30. People at work all assumed I was older, but I know it wasn't my looks because I routinely got carded buying alcohol!
