Should I cancel my AKL ressie?

I called Disney Club to check on prices at AKL for 6 nights from 11/17/02-11/22/02 and first the CM got all of my information. She then told me when my deposit was due. I told her I was only checking prices and she told me that since there was a DC discount, I should probably just go ahead and keep it and could cancel later. I got a savannah view for $229 ($254 w/tax) per night. I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend that much or not.
I also posted on the rent/trade DVC board and someone posted that I could get AKL savannah for $197 points or Deluxe savannah for $245 points at the going price of $10-$12 per point. I checked the point calculator and AKL was not listed. However I saw that the Poly was a lot cheaper. Even rack rates for AKL listed on disney.com are cheaper than what I was told on the DVC board.
I got my confirmation for my AKL ressie and saw that they had tacked on sports admission which I do not want. Should I keep my AKL ressie and hope for a better price or cancel and hope for a postcard or upgrade later on?
1 more question- what is the difference between a savannah view and a deluxe savannah?
Sorry so long!

I have stayed at AKL 4 times now, and we really love it! $254 for a savannah view is not a terrible rate. Granted, there have been better rates. First, I would call CRO again and ask them about room only with a DC discount. Explain to them what happened with your original reservation. Hopefully, this will bring the price down a little.

As far as keeping the reservation, I would keep it only if you are willing to pay the $254 if you are unable to get a better price. I often do this...I will book at what I am willing to pay, worst case scenario. I then continue to try for discounts and then either modify the existing reservation or make a new one.

As far as the DVC points...I belong to DVC and will not use my points to stay at the Disney resorts. The exchange rates are very high. I have paid cash for all 4 of my AKL stays.

The difference between std savannah and deluxe savannah is room size. The deluxe is a little bigger. Also, the balconies in the deluxe are bigger. The deluxe rooms are also all on the higher floors. We have stayed in both, and I personally wouldn't pay the extra for the deluxe.

I'll call back to see if I can get room only. If not, I'm sure I'll keep the ressie that I already have. I am willing to pay that much- just don't really want to, LOL!
I have alway wanted to know the difference between savannah and savannah deluxe.
You must really like AKL a lot to be a DVC member and have paid cash to go to a non-DVC resort 4 times.
Thanks!
Erin

My Mom really likes AKL. It is the first time in 29 years where she is the one saying that she wants to return.

For our March trip, my original reservation for a Standard Savannah room was for $355/night (tax included). It was definitely more than I wanted to spend, but if I absolutely had to, I would since it is my birthday. Eventually, I was able to get the price down to $233/night (tax included)....much better!

Just don't give up on trying for a discount. Keep checking here and Mousesavers. I also would call CRO and ask them if there was a better rate available.

Good luck. Let us know how you make out!

The Sports Complex Admission Ticket or Mini Golf Ticket is included for all Room Only D/C reservations since D/C reservations are booked thru WDTC and they sell rooms with tickets. Beside size the Deluxe Savanna room and hold up to 5 people with bedding of one queen, one day bed and one set of bunk beds.

Texaserin - the points you were quoted were incorrect.

For a Savannah view for Sunday- Thursday night the cost would be $290 and for Fri night it would be $520 if you were paying $10 per point

A Deluxe would be Sun- Thurs $360 and Fri $650.

That said I think the $254 rate is fine. I've stayed there once paid cash...points are to expense for me to waste. And we will be there again on Saturday night....
