Should I call SW concerning a pet allergy?

I wondered how it works with the possibility of pets on board. I'm not allergic but wondered how they managed to offer flights with pets and people who are allergic to them.

Good question. I have been on SW flights that had a layover in a city before my destination.

The crew announced once we were back in the air, that they would not be serving nuts, only pretzles, as there was a tree-nut allergy on board.

However if you looked around on the floor and in the seat pockets where the magazines are, you could plainly see debris from previous passengers that had consumed nuts.

I'd like to know how they also wouldn't know if the passenger before an allergic person had a pet (who most likely was nervous and shedding)- and in what timeframe - the previous flight, 1 or two that same day? The crews frequently change in between cities - who would know this info I wonder?

I'd suggest bringing your own disinfecting wipes and asking at the gate if you can go on early to wipe down seats near the back for you and your husband. he also may want to wear a filter mask during boarding as that is when most of the irritants will be flying.

Thanks, the filter mask suggestion is a great idea, I never would have thought of that.

This is one legitimate downside of SW's policy of not assigning seats. You might find out there was a dog or two on the previous flight but would have no way of knowing just which seat or section of the plane they sat in. At least with assigned seats, there would be a record of where the animal was supposedly sitting.
