my dh and I are planning on going to WDW for my bday in October for the weekend. Should I book now even though there are no discount rates? What if I book now and then discount rates come out - can a change be made? How do I do it?

There's no reason to book this far ahead for such a quiet time of the year at WDW. I'd look to book sometime around June or July.

If you book at rack rates and a code becomes available, you can usually switch it with no problems. Just remember that code rate rooms are limited, so you need to change your ressies right away once the code comes out. If you wait too long, the code rate rooms may be gone.

Hi up there...I am in Oneonta, NY :flower1:

If you know you really are going then I would book now, better chance of getting a view you may want etc...book a room only then it can be cancelled without penalty if needed...yes if a code comes out you can call and check for an available code rate room, not necessarily your same room...

as always you should book a room you are willing to pay rack rate for and hope for a discount but not count on it for your plans :)

October is not a quiet time of the year - with MNSSHP, Food and Wine Festival, golf tournaments, and conventions, I would book something you can afford now and upgrade if discounts are released.

I have already booked for my oct b-day trip. My b-day is Oct 31 so I think it will be a pretty busy time to go. I can't wait to spend my b-day night at MK for the MNSSHP!! I am already thinking of costume ideas for myself, DH, DS-5 and DD-4. How funny would an Incrediables theme be? My DS already thinks he is Dash. Suggestions?

I've been to WDW in October. It is quiet, comparatively speaking. The resorts (any of them) will not be booked months in advance.

you a birthday cake and everyone else candles!!

Once I know the dates for our trip, I go ahead and get my reservations in. That way I'm more likely to get the AAA discount. Then if AP rates come out, I can modify. Come on AP rates for May/June!! :Pinkbounc

we are thinking of going in october...it says that this is a slow time of year other than columbus day weekend....is that not true??? please let me know.....we are wanting to go to the mickeys not so scarey halloween party..

We've found we like to go in October - weather is not too extreme, MNSSHP, and crowds are lower. In interest of keeping the latter true - don't go in October - it's a terrible choice. I'd keep in mind that the resorts may or may not fill up but the view or room type you're looking for may fill up. Also tickets for MNSSHP do eventually sell out with Holloween and weekends leading up going first. You could book your resort now but tickets for MNSSHP do not go on sale for quite a while so if you want to wait, perhaps about the time they go on sale you'll want to book your resort.

Princess Lovers Mom - Seems like we have similar plans but with a stay in South Carolina. The kids don't know it but we're heading south instead of north upon leaving Hilton Head. :teleport:

I would definately book now. October is a very, very busy month at WDW. Some weeks the crowds are summer like because of all the extra activities going on. If a discounted rate becomes available, and is available when you call you can apply it to your reservation. At least you know you will have the space to go.

busy busy month??? what all is going on at the world then...and when exactly are these things taking place???

Well I guess it depends on when you go in October if it is busy. From what I have been reading, it gets busier around Columbus weekend but is less busy the very first part of the month. Is my assumption correct??

I am planning a trip from 10/1 - and checkout on the 8th. Being that the 7th-9th is Columbus weekend I am wondering if I should revamp that to 9/30 and check-out Friday the 7th. Just wondering how busy that Friday the 7th will really be to see if I want to check out that day or not.
