Should I be worried? Cancelled reservation email.

Not sure if I should be concerned about this or not. I have a split stay booked for later this year at the Poly/Riviera, and had done a waitlist for the FW Cabins for the Polynesian part of the stay.

This afternoon I received an email telling me that my stay at the Poly had been cancelled and the points refunded, with no further information. I haven't looked on to the DVC site for weeks, so obviously I panicked, jumped on the website and did a live chat.

They basically said, don't worry, if its still showing on the Dashboard (which it is), its not a problem (no explanation as to why I got the email in the first place). I did notice that my waitlist had been cancelled however, the agent told me the notes stated that we did not meet the correct criteria, myself and the DVC chat person had no idea what that meant (we own 150 direct points at RIV).

I AM worried though, should I be? I just see no reason to receive the cancellation email and have terrible visions of it just disapearing off my dashboard at some point....

If you have a waitlist, that usually indicates it’s filled and the new rooms should show up soon.

I am not sure what that meant In terms of not being eligible. I would check your points activity statement…that will show what has been done.

My first thought was that the waitlist must have come through, therefore getting the cancellation email, but when I logged in and saw the existing booking was still sat there, I was really confused.

Edit - No sign of any changes on my points activity statement since I made the original booking.

It can take time to see the new one, but if the comment was made there was an issue, the points activity statement will tell you if they actually did anything with your points.

Just edited the post above to say there are no activities on my statement since the bookings were originally made :)

Odd, very odd. It sounds like your waitlist matched & then when MS went to actually make the change something happened. Since the FW cabins are so new & are in a trust unlike all of the other DVC resorts maybe there’s some kind of IT glitch? Personally, I’d probably call MS & get a better explanation for that note that you did not meet the correct criteria. Is it possible you put in your waitlist before 7 months?

Are the points in the Poly booking resale? If so, depending on when you purchased them, resale points would not be valid to book the Ft Wilderness cabins.

It says in the OP that their points are direct.

This might be it! We do have direct points at Riviera, but since it was the Poly stay we waitlisted against it would have been using our Poly resale points!

So I’m guessing, waitlist came though, Poly got temporarily cancelled, they realised I was using resale points for that portion of my stay, so they reinstated the original Poly booking!

Assuming you had the pts available on your RIV contract and it was the same membership I feel like they should have called you to discuss. Unless I am misremembering you don't specify where the points come from when waitlisting (only if you want to borrow).

Probably had the waitlist set up to replace Poly reservation. System would try to reuse those points. Since their stay was a split btwn Riv & Poly, they probably didn't have enough Riv points to cover and probably didn't set up waitlist to borrow (if that were a possibility). May not have even checked Riv contract to use.

It's very rare for MS to call re waitlists.

I was under the assumption that the system pulled the rooms from inventory when a match occurred and then a CM had to manually process the waitlist. I thought that is when they might notice the "wrong" points being used. I know I've read of a few occurrences of them calling when they had a question about a waitlist. Guess that is probably few and far between though.
