Should I be concerned?

I rented from someone I met through this board. Very friendly and helpful. I paid in full through paypal and was told I'd receive the confirmation letter in the mail as soon as they got it. 59 days later and I still don't have it. After some time had passed and no letter I emailed them a couple times and didn't get a response so I then called them and they told me they would send it out that night and that I must not have received their email responses. (I felt like I was being bothersome.) Two weeks passed and still no letter. I emailed them two days ago and have not heard back. I'm getting a little concerned. I have called DVC several times and the ressie stands correctly. This is the first time I have rented points so I could use some advice. I feel the transaction is credible. but I don't want to get down there and not have a room. This is our family vacation for the year and I had cancelled our previous ressie through Disney Club to rent points instead. We're very excited about our trip and I don't want to cancel. By renting points we are able to stay somewhere we wouldn't normally be able to right now since I'm home with my kids. My husband and mom think it is fine, but I just could use some more knowledgeable opinions. Is a confirmation letter necessary for check in? (I do have a confirmation number.) Thanks!

This sounds so stressful. Personally I would like to get a confirmation letter. I am renting points from someone for my Disneyland's trip and he sent me my confirmation letter and also asked DVC to fax me a copy in a very promtly manner.

I also rented points to other people too. I always ask DVC to send the renter a copy of the confirmation directly, and so far had never had any problems. Renting points actually made me to get to know some great people I otherwise would probably have never met.

Since you have the confirmation # and I assume the confirmation is made under your name, can you ask Member Services to either fax you or mail you a copy of the confirmation?

Good luck and I hope everything will work out.

Thanks for the advice. I had mentioned to DVC several times that I was calling because I hadn't received a letter yet from the owner. They never replied back that they could send me a copy, but I'll call back and ask. Won't hurt. Couple questions - If the ressie stands then the owner has already "cashed" in their points? In other words... I can't get down there and check in ask me for more money? Also, I shouldn't be worried about the ressie being cancelled without me knowing? Starting to get a little paranoid here. I know I shouldn't be, they were very nice, but this is just becoming odd. Could be they are extremely busy. In our transaction I was told that I could cancel up to 30 days prior to our trip. If anything forbid should happen I might not even be able to get hold of them. Thoughts? What would some of you do? I'm sure BCV is already filled for when we're going at this point even if I tried to rent from someone else and once again they were nice at first so I would hate to cancel. Wouldn't want to cancel on anyone. Thanks...

I can't answer all your questions. However, once the reservation is made, DVC won't ask you for additional money when you check in for the nights that are covered in the reservation. In the event of a cancellation before the 30-day period, the points will just go back to the DVC owner's account as if nothing happened.

I don't blame you for getting worried and I certainly hope that everything will be OK. I would hate to see anyone having a bad experience renting points.

I think the most important thing is for you to be comfortable with this DVC member to make sure that they will keep the reservation for you. Even if you have a confirmation letter, if the ressie is later cancelled, the confirmation letter means very little.

I believe DVC's MS works for its members and they don't get involved with any of these rental transactions. So I really think you should figure out if you want to stick with this transaction or not. I am not renting you my points. I just want to help to make sure no matter what happens, you are comfortable with your decision.

:D

I can understand why you are feeling worried. It is funny that they haven't sent the confirmation letter when you have asked twice. You do not have to have the letter to check in but I think the worry is more from why aren't these people going to the bare minimum of trouble to send it. Since these transactions have to be based on trust, you are starting to feel unsure about if you have put your trust in the right place.
I think these people just don't realize that having the letter in your hand is important. I do not think they will cancel the reservation on you but I think you should e-mail them and tell them gently that you are feeling nervous and could they reassure you that all is well. Their answer to that could help you know what kind of people you are dealing with.
Hope this helps you!

Thanks once again to you both. Seems like at this point the letter means basically nothing, if the ressie can still be cancelled by the member anyway and I don't need it for check in. All the letter would mean to me then is a little security in knowing the member I rented from is doing what they said they would. So if I call within the 30 day mark of my vacation and everything is still fine I should be good to go? What are the penalties for canceling for a member within 30 days? I still have almost 60 days before we leave. My last email two days ago was basically just as you suggested wdwendyd. I stated that I was getting a little uneasy, but I was polite. Haven't heard back yet. I want to keep this ressie. My oldest is very excited about Stormalong Bay.

What are the penalties for canceling for a member within 30 days?
The points would go into a holding account which means they can only be used to make a reservation within 60 days of the new arrival date, cannot be used the last two months of your use year, and they cannot be banked.

So that doesn't add any safety in me calling to see if the ressie is still there within the 30 day mark... Oh well. I felt the transaction was credible, but I just don't understand why they won't respond back or mail me the letter. GRRRRRRRR........... ;)

I have rented points from people on this board and never had any problem. Look at it like this, If someone does rip you off posting all their personal info for other's to see on the board's is a big deterent for someone to rip you off. I have a copy of a contract for point rental, I know it would not help now but if you would like a copy PM me with your email address and I'll send you a copy.

WDWCRAZY32 .. there is no Official point rental contract....everybody does there own thing...the rental agreement you might have is from a speicific owner not DVC it self...

that said I have been on both sides of the rental agreements on this board and never have had a bad experience..

I wish the original poster luck with there transaction.....I would hope it is just a matter of lackk of time on the renter's point...If you are able to check on the ressies I would keep doing it periotically until you get the confirmation....

zurgswife, No it is not an official DVC contract, I rx'd it from a post on this board. But it could give some peace of mind or possibly deter a thief from ripping someone off. I have rented and NO PROBLEMS what so ever without a contract, everyone I have had contact with on this board seems to be very honest and upfront. If someone were going to rip you off it would be quite hard for them to get away with it as I am sure DVC themselves would help authorities with all the information about the member. That also gives me some peace of mind about renting.

So should I keep emailing and try calling them again until I get the confirmation letter even if I do seem a bother? (Since from the sounds of it the letter is basically useless? ) Or just go with the flow and just keep calling DVC every so often to make sure the ressie is still there? Thanks!

If the ressie is there then there really is no worry.....I would check periodically to make sure but I would also harass the heck out of the owners to send me the confirmation letter you probably have sent them a lot of money and the most considerate thing would have been to send it to you immediatly .......I had one experience with a semi non responsive owner....in the end after I paniced it turned out just fine...they were extremely busy and didn't check there email very often....

Do you have a phone number????I've always gotten a phone #. If you don't have one maybe you could look it up and give them a call.

Good Luck

Thanks zurgswife. If I can get a fax instead do you think that would be just as good as getting the original copy? Or do I still need to try for the original?

The confirmation was mailed. It was delayed because DVC sent it while I was away for 3 weeks. Unfortunately it then must have been lost in the mail but because this has happened before I had kept the original copy and have now faxed the written confirmation.

Yes, I now have a faxed copy. The problem is now solved. :) Thanks to all who helped ease my worries. Now I can relax and count down the days until our vacation. Sad that times are like this that I would even have to worry about such things... Obviously everyone on this board loves WDW and I think we are the best people out there anyway! ;) Soooo, thanks to the owner for sending me the fax and this post is closed! :)
