Should I add on or continue borrowing pts?

We decided to join last week at SSR and signed our papers yesterday. We made our first ressie and ended up borrowing points from 06 (Our UY is Sept.). Based on where we want to stay in the future (World Collection included), it seems like for every year, we will end up borrowing between 25 and 50 pts from the next year. Is this wise? Should we add on pts now and not borrow every year? Or should we rent the points from someone now and pay between $10 and $12 a point to make up the difference and hopefully not borrow again?

Currently, we are a family of 5, with the youngest child being 2 months old. From what I hear, we can stay in a studio or 1 bedroom until the youngest reaches 3 years old. But, in three years, we may have to stay in 2 bedroom units. Based on this, it may be better to buy the additional points now.

Ok, this is how it was explained to me (which made me "happy enough" with my 180 pts at BWV)..... No matter how many points you have, you will always be banking, using, borrowing points. The only thing I've done thusfar is bank my 2005 points so I don't know how much of an authority I'd be BUT I'd say, call your guide and talk to them. My guide was wonderful about helping with points and also helping me to be more conservative in buying points for now...... Best Wishes to You in your decision and your purchase.

We borrowed one year and I really hated being in that position the following year. So we added on. Mind you I think we have more points now then we'll ever need.

Economically, it's better to continue borrowing. When you finally reach the point that you can't take a trip, then you decide if you want to add on or rent.

Things happen - you never know when you might have to skip a trip or not want to go for some reason. IMHO, it's better to postpone spending more $$ on pre-paid vacations until you know for sure that you absolutely have to. Keep inmind that more/longer trips will increase the amount of $$ you spend on tickets, transportation and food.

Nothing wrong with borrowing points - anyone who banks points should thank those that borrow. If banking and borrowing are not somewhat in balance, DVC will suspend both (JMHO. They do reserve the right to do that, though).

Best wishes -

If you owned at a smaller resort, I might recommend adding on. However, historically because OKW has been the largest resort at DVC, not only did DVC always points to sell, the resale market has usually had lots of points, and these points would go cheaper than other resorts just because of demand-supply.

I don't think you will ever have a problem getting SSR points. True, the points will only become more expensive from DVC, but I bet you will always be able to find some good deals on the resale market because sellers will always be competing against one another.

Now, if you are wanting to add-on at a smaller resort...I would say go ahead and do it. I think getting add-ons at BCV and VWL may get harder, I certainly don't think they will get easier.

Keep borowing. The worst case scenario is that the last year of use you won't get to vacation. Who knows you might be dead by then. If you find a year with no points, rent if you want or take a break. Invest that money you considered adding on with. 30 years from now you'll be glad you did.

We just bought & are already thinking of adding points, for similar reasons. I personally would recommend looking into a resale rather than going to Disney if you are considering adding on. You will save substantial $$$. You might consider buying your points at HH or VB, as they seem to be going for alot less.

Good luck!
