Thanks to the last Tropical storm and the schools closing, our county took away our vacation this week to use a make up days. We should have been leaving for a week at SSR this morning. To make it worse, much worse, our bank account was hacked into yesterday and almost a grand was drained. Guess it's a good thing we were home or we would't have caught it. Has anyone had any experience with this that they can share?

I am very sorry that you have to go through this. Our CC account was used for nearly $10,000 worth of puchases many years ago, and eventually things were settled in an easier fashion than I feared. Apparently it was a widespread problem in Houston and we had no problems taking the charges off our Discover card.

I hope the same goes for you.

Do you mean someone figured out your password to do online banking in your account? It should be easy enough to have the bank figure out where the money was sent and maybe get it back?

We live in Florida and the charges taken out of our account are from three stores in Massachusetts. The bank isn't open until 9 tomorrow, so all we can do is sit and stress. I called the three stores and they said all purchases were on line transactions with our debit card number. No proof of ID was required when the items were picked up. The managers are trying to help us and go through store video, but since nothing was signed for they don't know what else can be done. Luckily we have protection on our account, so that was the max they had access to.

That really stinks and not knowing how they got your Number is even worse.

This is why we use Credit cards for everything. At least if it gets taken they can't cause us to have Bounced checks and so forth. Also it's harder to get funds returned via Debit then it is to get them removed via Credit.

It's so easy to lift Numbers or have inside people give them away.

When I'm away the first thing I do in the Morning is pull my main Credit card account up to check for crazy charges it only takes a second but can really head things off. We also carry 2 other types of cards but never pull them unless an emergency.

Oh and it stinks about the Schooling as well . I know we all look so forward to our time off and when that has to be taken away it stings a bit.

I'm at school today because of a make up day.. thanks Gustav

No real complaints.. we were blessed to not have too much damage.

I hope everything works out for you! My DB had his identity stolen 4 years ago and it took him nearly 3 years to clean up that mess! Best of luck to you!

On a recent trip to Africa, someone cloned our primary CC, even though we were careful about where and when we used it and did not let them take the card out of our sight. Suddenly there were three charges in Mozambique (and we'd been home for 10 days).

Luckily, our bank was suspicious and held the authorizations until they could call us (that's a call you love to get a 6am on a Sunday--Hi, this is your bank. Are you in Maputo, Mozambique, by any chance?)

So someone copied our numbers, including the security code off the back and sold it to someone in Mozambique who made a new card and then sold it.

I am so happy that some criminal just lost his money by paying for a cc that did not work!

Good luck with your bank!!!

That is horrible, does your debit card account not require a PIN each time you use it.

Also to everyone else, never use your Debit card for travel. Best to use a secured credit card if you have to.

Over 80 accounts at our bank were compromised. They are taking care of everything and after DH completed a police report he was told the FBI is investigating. This story even made the news tonight. What a huge amount of stress. Needless to say, we are in the process of changing banks. DH said several people at the bank were just devastated, every cent they had was cleaned out. Yes, the bank is replacing the funds but not for 48 hours.

That is just terrible....if the banks are replacing the funds...are they going to cover any monies that might bounce? and talk to creditors?

I'm so sorry this happened to you!
