How about the dried bananas in trail mix? My puppy loves those things and I'm not sure if he should eat them or not.

Most canines are omnivirous meaning they eat fruits, grasses, meat etc. Bears, a close cousin, are the same way. My dearly departed dog Rosie, a wire haired terrier, ate apples all her life. She absolutely loved them. As long as they do not have stomach trouble (and oh boy will you know if they do) I see no problem.

As far as I know the only things that dogs should not eat are raw onions and raisins. Both can cause serious problems and even death. Grapes are fine, and cooked onions are okay. I know raw onions have an enzyme that can cause blood clotting problems.

Oh yes, and chocolate too.

Thanks.:) I knew about the onions and the chocolate, but didn't know about the raisins. I've been freaking out when my kids try to give the puppy Funyuns.:o

Don't know Shannon, but our pooch isn't all that fussed on banana.......he does however like Apple.

Pssssssstttt Love the new pic in your siggy :D

My dogs love bananas. Frozen bananas are great for occupying their time, but they're kinda high-risk as far as being a choking hazard. I watch them verrry closely (and I know how to save them if they choke).

We use to have to give our cat some Banana to keep up his Potassium levels

jj......... ;)

will drool all over the floor and I mean DROOL if he sees anyone peeling a banana......so he gets a little here and there......the mess on the floor is horrible though....so usually the family hides in their bedrooms to eat any

We have to sneak oranges like this....or put the dog out BEFORE we start peeling. He becomes like a faucet and drools until you give it to him. He also LOVES strawberries, tomatoes, mushrooms, carrots and apples. Our vet told us the same things as above, anything but onions and chocolate. In fact, I would rather give him carrots or something as a treat......just like us, they dont always need "junk" (smelly pupperoni treats) as snacks!

Our dog will eat anything he can get his teeth around.........watermelon, any kind of real food, and has not had any kind of problems with anything. He has been known to eat dryer lint, also, which means when we empty the filter, it has to go right out to the trash in the garage.

Is funny, I have a malteese and a silky terrier. If I have a bananna and give a piece to my "banana crazy" malteese I always feel bad and trying to treat them equally I try to give a piece to the silky. She turns her nose up and runs the other way. She likes apples, and the malteese doesn.t. Guess they are just like people when it comes to tastes. :happy1:

We had a Dalmatian who loved raw baby carrots. He would choose them over dog treats. On Christmas Eve we would set them by the fireplace for Santa to feed the reindeer and my ds would get upset when Ike would eat them.

Shannon, in regards to your question SHOULD DOGS EAT BANANAS...
my DH says....YES, BUT ONLY IF YOU PEEL THEM FIRST!!!!! :rotfl:

Yup, banans are fine. Be careful of apples and grapes...too many can be bad (I think it has to do with the seeds...so make sure they don't get a hold of a whole apple and eat core and all).

My dobie loves the last bite of the banana - and has to eat it out of the peel. If you put it in her bowl, she won't eat it. She also eats socks and knee high stockings --I know, I know! We have to lock everything down to keep her out of the laundry hamper. She will sneak into my room to "scope it out", and snatch something. Then if I catch her sneaking it into the other room, she will try to hide it under her so I won't find it. Weird dog!

Tinkerbell LOVES bananas...when I'm cutting one up to go in my cereal, she's always right next to me in case I drop any. (LOL, and sometimes I "accidentally" do.)

She also LOVES cauliflower, cucumbers, carrots, and broccoli stems (only the stems - never the actual floret part). She hangs out when we're cutting up veggies for salads, and we can actually toss pieces at her, and she has learned to catch them in midair.

I think a sweet treat like a banana is a highlight of a dog's day. :jester:

Denise, you're supposed to peel the banana before you eat them?;)

Thanks times 2, Nutsy.;) I love that pic too.:)

Thanks everyone.:) My puppy says thank you too.:teeth:

I've never heard anything bad about bananas but grapes and raisins are toxic to dogs. This something they have just discovered in the last 5 years. Something about them shuts down their kidneys. My dogs loved them but I had to stop giving them any.
