Should Disney have made Haunted Mansion movie differently?

This thought just came to my mind, and I thought I would get other people's opinions to see what is generally thought of the Haunted Mansion movie.

Since Pirates was such a huge hit because it was a good mix of great actors, great storylines, great effects, etc, I was thinking that instead of making the Haunted Mansion movie as sort of a comedy, maybe they could have made it a huge blockbuster like Pirates was. Anyone agree? Anyone have any ideas on how they could have made it?

I'm a rare breed, as I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Every time I watch it, it reminds me of riding through the attraction at WDW. *sigh*

I always thought they should have hired Tim Burton and made it something spooky and spectacular...I didn't think much of the movie as it was...

But that's just me, I'm a purist...

Yeah, they could have made it good.

It was just too corny, a little bit of corn would be good, because the ride is tongue in cheek, but there was just too much.

The movie did have a slightly different spin to it, but a few parts were cut out that had shown more of the history of the HM's main inhabitants (Gracey and Elizabeth). I'd heard that was great footage, but Disney opted for more kid friendly, goofy comedy stylings since Eddie Murphy was in it. Too bad.

I would have opted for Tim Burton as well, or someone with an equally dark sense of humor.

I didn't like the HM movie very much at all. I think the slapstick comedy detracted from the storyline. Even Madam Leota came across as goofy, rolling around in her crystal ball.

The only thing I liked about the movie were the ghosts and the core story of Master Gracey. I would have liked to see more info on why the mansion attracted all those ghosts.

POTC is intriguing because their storyline wasn't set in a single place like the HM. They have the ability to go to the edge of the world, under the sea, etc.

The HM equivalent would be to go to the land of the dead or other haunted places, but the writers would have to plot out why we'd want to do that.

Has anyone seen the Tower of Terror movie? I have never ridden TOT because I don't like being dropped on rides (want to hit warp speed? Ride with me on the teacups!) but that was the cutest movie. DH and I use phrases from it all the time.

This movie was not good at all. I was very suprised at Disney with this movie.

With Kirsten Dunst? Yes, I also thought it was cute and was surprised I hadn't heard of it before when I watched it on Disney Channel a while back. It was obvious by how young Kirsten was that it was a long time ago.

While I loved the POC movies; well, at least the first one . . last one was too sad, I also enjoyed the HM movie. Didn't love it, but didn't hate it. Maistre Gracey was one sexy guy.

It could have been MUCH better. Even a made for TV movie would have been better done. Poor story line, not enough HM, and mediocre acting.
