My daughter's birthday party is Saturday, and I'm trying to plan the menu. I got some shot glasses and mini trifle bowls last year for my birthday, and I've yet to use them. I'd like some easy ideas that would appeal to both the kids and parents. Anybody have any ideas for me?

This one may appeal to the parents, maybe not the kids though:

Cheescake Shot-Glass dessert:
2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon coffee-flavored liqueur or 1 teaspoon chocolate extract
2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
4 tablespoons chocolate cookie crumbs
Chocolate-covered coffee beans or grated chocolate
4 tablespoons graham cracker crumbs
Blueberries and raspberries

Okay well when I read the title I though "jello shots of course" but obviously THAT is out of the question. :lmao: How about...

chocolate mousse shots
fruit dip and apple sticks/slices
spinach dip and crackers/breadsticks
chicken salad and celery

Most other the things that come to my mind are more for adult tastes. How old are the kids?

The kids are 8. I was thinking about spinach dip and/or chicken salad. I may try those. I was also thinking about making a mac & cheese bar for the kids and adults, but I wasn't sure if that would be good in the heat of the summer.

On the dessert ones- what about small brownie chunks with chocolate moose- top with a fancy swirl of whipped cream and some chocolate shavings?

For the kids I would keep it simple. Summer means fruit salad to my guys.

I just did this Saturday for a BBQ. It got rave reviews.

I had some disposable shooter glasses, so it would be the same thing but with shot glasses. I basically made up the recipe as I went along so you can do it your way

SMores Shooters.

ingredients
crushed graham crackers
mini marshmallows
choc. syrup.
mini hershey bars (the 8 or 10 pack)
marsh fluff * you could melt the marshmallows and eliminate it

Place graham crumbs on bottom of glass
then squirt small amount of choc. syrup.
Put about 4-5 mini marhmallows
Then either relayer with a small amount of syrup or with a small amount of the crumbs.

For the finishing touch break off a small piece of the hershey bar (4 little rectangles to each mini bar). I placed the little hershey piece off to the side so it looked like a straw. In order to make this adher, I used a small amount of marsh fluff at the end of the mini piece. I probably could have microwaved the marshmallows and used a melted piece of marshmallow.

I repeated this 24 times (24 cups). I then placed them all in the freezer. I was able to keep them out and from melting for a while.

It was a cute easy idea. It would have been nicer if I had disposable demitasse spoons. Regular plastic spoons did work however.. most of the shooter glass came out with one spoonful.

I got lots of comments. We had adults and kids (and teens) there. The kids and teens loved them. The adults liked them as well. To make it more "adult" I could have soaked the graham crackers in amaretto.. but this was the first time meeting this crowd and I didn't know.

A bakery we like just started selling icing shots - icing in a little shot cup, with sprinkles, cookie crumbs, etc. Just like their cupcakes without the cake. Must have been created with my DD in mind, who will lick off all the icing and hand you back the cupcake.

I've never seen this done but it sounds really cute. My one question is how do you eat them? I'm thinking most plastic spoons and forks would be too big to fit into the shot glass so what else do you use? We're planning a 100th birthday next year for my grandmother and this could be a cute idea to incorporate.

We have them at some restaurants around here..they are usually in a bigger glass than a shot glass. Some places though, I still have to use a knife to get it all out.

NOW, I may have to go to Applebees...

Yum!!!

depending on the size of the shot glasses, iced tea spoons work well. at least they do with the glasses I have.

How about demitasse spoons?
