Hi All,
As some of you know i recently posted about my Nan's kidney problems.
Well at the same time do you recall me saying that Grandad spoke up at the Hospital about my Nan's Memory? The Doctor said he would get a referal for Nan for her Doctor?.Well she has just come back from the Doctors and the Doctor wants to send her for a 'test' for Short Term Memory Loss.
Now does anyone have any info about this, what the test involves, does someone you know suffer with it and would you mind sharing it with me,either on here or by PM-ing me?.
Am i right in saying that this is NOT linked or has anything to do with Dementia or Alzcheimer's?.She was tested for this, earlier this year and was given the all clear on that.
I am too scared to look things up on the Internet as it always makes me feel worse about things.
Any help as always would be much appreciated, thank you.x.

Sorry Michelle - the only info I have is on dementia and my gran suffers from that and has for the last 9 years :confused3

I have to agree google is dangerous sometimes - hope someone can answer your questions

I hope someone can answer you questions, i have to say my short term memory is appalling !

I don't know anything about it Michelle. Big hugs to you and your nan though.

I agree not to search the internet for it but you could look at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk their website is very good. (Typically though it is offline for maintenance right now but try it in an hour or two.)

my Nan had senile dementia and it is hard to cope with at times and I have to say quite annoying at times , especially if it goes undiagnosed for a time. we thought nanna was just repeating questions because she was not happy with our answers ( me being 12 at the time of diagnosis). I believe the test is similar to a 'remember where your card is' or a 'matching' type of game, that was a few years back so it may have advanced since then. I recall that she used to get upset at not remembering but as the illness progresses that passes. It then affects you and your emotions more than theirs.

I hope you get a diagnosis soon, as not knowing is worse than the actual dealing with. The sad fact is that as we humans are not designed to live as long as we do and therefore have problems in our old age.

I hope you and your family can cope with whatever comes your way.You sound very close and caring

Thanks everyone for your wishes  .x.

May i say, thank you so much for sharing your story  .I was thinking that type of 'test'.
Nan does get irritable with herself when she's trying to think of what she wanted to say-does that make sense?.She does'nt get upset, annoyed more than anything, she admits to me that she is forgetting things.
It is effecting me+my Grandad-especially my Grandad,it is very, very hard to see Nan like this+very, very hard to hear my Grandad talk about it+how much it gets to him :sad2: .In saying all of that, she can remember things from donkeys years ago-she will tell you all about her being in the Royal Air Force, and she will even remember something from say last week. But you do still notice that there is a 'problem'.
After all that has come my way i am hopeful i can cope with this outcome-if it it is the worst.Me+my Grandad will cope,i am pretty sure of that-we have each other and will get thru this.x.

 for you all xx
