Okay so I know the long expandable sticks are banned and agree they should be. However I'd like a short one to just take videos while on rides of the kids (without bothering or blocking any other guests:)I'm looking for a short one like the GoPro cameras use. Any suggestions? I can't seem to find one

you can bring a mini tripod. I have this one cause I stream using my phone, I place it on tables or even garbage cans, it does not expand. They have no problem with it

GoPro "handles" are allowed. (See an example HERE.)
There were many posts discussing this right after the time Disney started prohibiting the selfie sticks.

Yes I wanted something like this I could use but for my iPhone.

selfie sticks are not allowed, no matter how short the extension is
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/park-rules/
section i in the prohibited items

That's not what it says. It says that "hand held extension poles" are prohibited.

That's not what the OP is asking about. She's asking about a non-expandable, short, stick. Which by the wording IS allowed. And it's what Robo pictured.

But I disagree that the OP isn't going to bother anyone using that thing on rides. They will. It'll irritate all sorts of people, which is bothersome. :)

Handles are allowed so something like the gopro floating handle can come in and my daughter brings one in all the time. I have a third party handle and a handle with a 3 axis gymbal that I just started to bring in. They are going to question it a lot and I recommend a security line with a younger checker as the older staff always needs someone younger to check it out also to ensure it's just a handle.

I recommend a handle with a strap on it you can put around your wrist. If questioned you can say it's a camera handle with a strap to ensure it stays in your hand during a ride no matter what happens. They like your thinking about safety. Women get them in easier than men, I get the 3rd degree and my daughter just strolls in with no questions about it.

If it extends at all, can twist to point at you then they will not let it in. There is no I guess it's ok with security, if they aren't sure you're not getting it in.

Now the grey line is mono pods which is basically all a selfie stick is. You won't get it in with a gopro or consumer camera. someone with a DSLR, series lense and feet on the monopod probably will.

Agree with bold! Cell phone use on rides is annoying enough let alone using any thing to hold it.

I think even a short stick will be bothersome to other people. Imo. I was under the impression that all selfie sticks were prohibited. even ones that did not expand.

Be aware the glow from your screen on a dark or indoor ride, or at night, is distracting and bothersome to many guests.

Any sort of stick to extend the phone won't be allowed, not to mention that it's dangerous if it ever loosened from your grasp. On a higher speed ride, it would become a projectile.

Oh my lord you people need to relax!!! Seriously find something to do rather than complain about what would be bothersome! First of all I would never use flash photography or a bright phone on a dark ride or heaven forbid use it as a projectile! I was thinking Dumbo or The flying carpets. I am a very polite, kind and helpful to everyone both inside and out of Disney and wouldn't want to bother anyone else on their vacation. I simply wanted to use it to grab a quick video to post to a homemade memory video I wanted to make for my kids like so many I have seen on YouTube. Personally I love the one that bosox2001 posted the other day. It's been great to watch his kids grow and I wanted the same thing for my boys to look back on and wanted just a little extra length to get a good video. However lord forbid I should do something that would be a memory for my family without ticking off, you over judgemental jump on everyone's back over the slightest things, people!! Seriously why don't you guys just relax and let people enjoy their trips rather than on here complaining and debating about what everyone does. Yes some people suck but you can only control how you act and behave no use in trying to tell others how to act. Heavens I'm just sick of everything on here turning into a major debate it gets just upsetting to read and then just like me your afraid to ask one question without being judged and feeling attacked that I did something wrong. Good grief!! In the words of Cinderella..."have courage and BE KIND"

What has been happening or I should say was happening is that the sticks were being accidentally dropped causing ride shutdowns or were creating a accidental weapon and harpooning other guest because people were not paying attention. In actuality, the selfie stick was a very good solution for off ride photos as they took up way less space then having someone take a group picture across the pathway causing everyone to have to stop while the picture was taken.

Ummm, you asked for opinions in the original post and directly asked about "bothering" other guests - I don't think its reasonable to get upset by the posters answering your initial question (I guess they weren't giving you the response you wanted)????? Personally, I think all sticks should be banned on rides, what one person thinks is fine may not be for the guests around them. It also bothers a lot of people (myself included) when guests hold their phones/tablets/etc. in the air for the entire parade/show/fireworks and all you can see is a glowing screen in front of you.

My two cents (that are only worth 0.8 with the current exchange) :)

Nope I asked where to get the stick and where I could find them. Strictly facts not your opinion!

Thank you for the factual explanation. I understand how things like that can happen and would never want someone to get hurt.

With all due respect you did mention "take videos while on rides of the kids (without bothering or blocking any other guests)". As a whole you will find that the general concensus is that using a cell phone is a distraction during a ride. If the screens weren't lit with LEDs (as most are) it wouldn't be nearly as bad.

It doesn't mean that people don't do it otherwise where do all those Youtube videos come from but truth is it probably was annoying/distracting for those guests.

And let's be honest you're defending your intention on an emotional level and others are going about it as interfering with their guest experience. You did ask for recommendations and you did get that. But you also mentioned why you wanted a selfie stick and you got responses regarding that too.

Nope - you stated "without blocking or bothering other guests" and then people pointed out how using the phone during an attraction would do just that.
