Shopping for dresses (vent ahead)

I checked out T.J Maxx, but they had *nothing*...seriously. Am going to the Talbott's Outlet(HATE the regular Talbott's will never walk in there ever EVER again). Am thinking about Ann Taylor (I just hope they don't laugh when I walk in the store) but am first going to also make the trek to Loehmann's.

This has been absolutely (and surprisingly-so) excruciating, right up there with shopping for a swimsuit.

Loehman's doesn't work for me anymore.....I am far from the size 2 I used to be & the rest look like mother of the bride or your "clubbing":lmao:

Try Lord & Taylor's, they are having huge sales!

Wish you good luck!

I had great luck at Ann Taylor a few years ago. It was actually rather expensive but I had an Amex gift card from client that got it down to something reasonable. It's that "little black dress" that you can wear to anything....but it was a pretty shade of darker blue rather than black. It actually made me look skinnier than I am (that N E V E R happens to me!). I didn't mind spending the money, it's a classic look that will never be out of style. Just add some trendy jewelry and it's good to go!

But I agree, I hate clothes shoping in general. I'm having a harder time finding quality clothes that 1) fit 2) aren't ugly 3) work for the occasion at hand 4) don't cost a weeks pay. You wouldn't think it would be this hard!

I'm generally happy being a woman, but I envy men in this. They only ever need 4 outfits for their whole life! Work, wedding/funeral, casual, and yard work/football/work out.

What about Kasper. Sometimes you can find some nice things if they have an outlet store near you.

Hi Agnes! You are coming West???? Where is this wedding? Just curious.

Okay, now I know this is going to sound frumpy but the last couple of times I needed a nice dress for an event including my brothers wedding (lavendar and periwinkle oh gag me :lmao: ) I found something at Sears. Yep, Sears. They are womanly curvy friendly, have a decent selection, are decently made and reasonably priced. They might not be all that trendy but from what you have described you dont want trendy, you want classic and pretty.

Good luck

With the wedding next week, is it too late to look online? I've gotten some nice clothes from Chadwicks. If you're plus sized, Jessica London has some cute stuff, too. I know what you mean about just looking for a pretty dress. Weddings in our neck of the woods are pretty simple, and it's almost impossible to find a dress that doesn't look like I should be clubbing in NYC or on the red carpet!

Sorry, I know this is slightly off topic - this is REALLY appropriate wedding guest attire???? :confused3

Well, I'm back.

My DD & I went to a Talbott Outlet. OMG, if you are looking for some pretty dresses and/or separates, they're all hiding out there. Unfortunately, none of the dresses fit me, *but* they sure were pretty in a variety of colors and lengths - even some floor-length ones.

What's funny is that I didn't want black & white, but that's what I ended up getting - a slightly flared-skirt in a black/white pattern and a black band at the bottom (plus it's lined with some really nice satin, not that cheap gauze/cotton that sticks to itself some of the other skirts were lined with). I also got a short black cardigan/jacket with 3/4 sleeves and outlined with white. So I wouldn't look too much like Cruella DeVil and pull everything together I got a hot pink lace-trimmed shell (my DD said that it really made it "pop").

I got 2 skirts, 3 shells and the cardigan/jacket...I LOVE 50% off the last-marked price!

And I feel like my outfit will be kind of pretty...you know, pretty.

Thanks to everyone for all their help and advice.

agnes!
PS - But I do feel like I need a drink :drinking1 .
