We need a new desktop. Any advice on where to shop? :confused3

Hi i can tell you where not to buy first Best B uy their customer service is terrible.Ihave 2 computers a laptop & my sons desk top .My laptop went wrong 3 times in a year .I brought warranty each time took long time to get back.I got my laptop back my sons 6 wks in being fixed no one called me back to let me know why it was so long.I kept phoning no one ever called me back when said they would Iput in a call to complain to head office the guy i spoke to was so rude i told him i had been treated un fairly he didnt feel that was true.Anyway i got it back two days ago .I have to go back with it as its not working same as it was but i am going to a different Best Buy because the Geek squad were so unhelpful & i wont go back .I also will not shop Best BUY any more we have spent a fortune there .

I forgot to say i brought 2 of my other children Dell computers for Xmas & i was impressed with their service they called me after the holidays to ask how i liked them . Ihave never had anyone call me like that i thought that was nice.:cool1::cool1:

Dell is the way to go. The dell outlet sells refurbished computers at a huge savings. i currently have three dell laptops (two refurbs) and they have all been "bulletproof". All of our desktops at work (~100) have performed extremely well and when we have had issues they have been there and backed up their product.

Recently bought a great desktop at Sam's Club. HP for $998 - fully loaded with a 24" HD monitor, wireless mouse & keyboard. They have the smallest markup. Upgraded the speakers(100 Bose) and just bought an awesome HP printer that will print on CD's/DVD's(114). Won't need to upgrade for a while because it already has a 64 bit processor. Very happy with it so far.:woohoo:

:flower3: Thanks for the responses. :thumbsup2

I'll check out the Dell website. I'll look at BJ's and Sam's club, too.

I really love Apples. We converted everything to them last year. You can get some great deals on the refurbished ones. I've also seen them occasionally on overstock. We got our macbook for $650. The things are user-friendly and I have yet to have any sort of problem with them.

What will you use the computer for?

Will it be for family or just yourself? For writing papers? Powerpoints? Gaming? Regular internet/email? Budget? Etc.

OP here, after much debate and LOTS of research, purchased an HP through Staples. There was another thread on the Budget board about this site:
http://www.dealsofamerica.com/desktop_deals.php.

I found the deal there.

This was very budget friendly (about $400. after $66 coupon) :thumbsup2 and had the features we needed.

I would like to purchase an Apple in a few years, when my kids are in high school.

Thank you all for your input! :goodvibes
