Shooting at Va Tech

There were definitely chained doors. I never though about the gun man putting the chains on; I just thought that was another huge problem for VT. Wow, Just wow either way. imagine finding your escape locked.

Studying for a test and just heard about this now.

My heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones. I'm also relieved that those DISer's that posted family members are safe and locked down.

Living in VA and knowing a ton of college students I can't say I'm surprised, but I just heard that a friend of a friend knew a victim. I just hope this isn't the first of many connections in my social circle!

DD has several friends there. One of her friends was shot in the back of the head and another one in the chest. The one shot in the head, her parents live in our neighborhood.

I just finished talking to DD who is at Florida State. She said that many of the students there have now heard about the VA Tech shootings. Needless to say, they are upset. They, like everyone else, want to think they are safe going about their daily routine. Something like this rocks that belief. I really didn't know what else to tell her other than we must live our lives to the fullest because, in the bigger picture, we aren't really in control. But, we can't let fear rule our lives or there is no point. I wish I could wrap my mind around the advice I'm spewing to her. At times like this, you want to wrap your kids in cotton and place them on shelf where nothing can get to them.

According to the press conference they just held, the representative said that the doors were chained from the inside. They don't know if it was something accessible on the doors left by the school itself that he used or if he brought the chain in himself.

Thanks for posting that. I had to turn the news off, it was getting to be too much for me. I never thought about how the chains could have been there already.

And I agree, we have no idea why law enforcement and the school did things the way they did. And already mentioning lawsuits??? Families don't even know if their loved ones are alive and people are talking lawsuits???

It was just reported from people at the hospital that the classroom the gun man shot at was a graduate level enginering class.

First there was shooting then a lockdown then the lockdown was lifted after a while! Then the shooter went to another part and shot the rest!! I atleast wanna find out the shooter was insane. i dont want it to be a rejected boyfriend who took it out on every1!!! I know I am not making sense right now!!

I came back to find out if your aunt or uncle had heard from your nephew yet. Still keeping your family in my prayers. You make perfect sense. I cannot begin to imagine what you and your family are going thru.

But the cold facts are that she is much more likely to encounter a problem in her "daily routine" for instance, a routine car accident, than she is to become a victim of random violence, like that which ocurred today at VT. Same goes for a shark attack, mad cow disease, stranger abduction, or any of the other myraid of stastically insignificant things today's media hype scares us to death with.

We were all following this story today at work for obvious reasons. Several employees have children at VT.

They must be releasing some names of the victims. I turned on the news tonight when they announced the name of a local girl (2005 graduate of Godwin High School) who was shot in the abdomen and is stable condition.

I'm trying to find a list on-line but so far have not been unsuccessful.

Prayers said for all those affected.

More than one classroom was attacked, from the sounds of it.

Sorry for going AWOL. Just received news my cousin is fine!! After the lockdown lifted he had gone to find out about the welfare of his other friends and got stuck there without a car. Why he could not call from someplace else is a mystery but we were just happy he is fine. He just called, my uncle was at his campus by then!! He is bringing him home despite his protests. We just want to hug him now. It was a scare though. Thanks for all ur prayers but even though my loved one is safe my heart goes out to people who must have got the other phone call!!!
