There was another incident in our area yesterday too --- I posted it as a reply - see below!:(

oh my gosh! I hope he and everyone else at that school are ok. What a horrible thing to happen! :(

OMG!

I work in a middle school.

The district has been talking about getting a SRO/metal detectors.. buts its all about money...

That is awful. I will have to go turn on the Philadelphia news to see what I can find out.

This incident happened in our area yesterday! These are MIDDLE SCHOOL kids for crying out loud! This 'kid' is the same age as my son!:(

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. -- A 14-year-old boy is facing charges after bringing explosives to Mechanicsburg High School.

Police said the teen, who is a student in the Mechanicsburg School District, arrived at the high school Wednesday morning around 8:30 a.m. with several bags, containing Molotov cocktails, two butcher knives, a baseball bat and ingredients to make additional incendiary devices.

"He lit and threw a total of three of these devices (Molotov cocktails). One of them narrowly missed a window where school staff was working. It is believed the juvenile's intention was to create panic and force an evacuation of the building," Police Chief David Spotts said.

A fire did not start and there was only minimal damage to the school.

Administrators and staff attempted to physically stop the attack.

"The juvenile began throwing gasoline and broken glass at one of the administrators in an apparent attempt to avoid being captured," Spotts said.

The juvenile surrendered to school authorities and police arrived and took him into custody. No one was hurt.

Students were later evacuated and the bomb squad from Fort Indiantown Gap was called in to check the contents of his bags.

"I was really scared, because we've had talks and rumors about this before, but it never really happened and it really scared me," senior Cassie McCreary said.

"I wanted to go home because I was terrified that it was going to happen again, because we've had a lot of threats this week," sophomore Kendra Hench said.

Police said the teen admitted to the crimes.

Police believe he was acting alone and that he was targeting specific people.

Police searched the teen's home and found evidence they said indicates that he planned to commit the crime.

He is charged with criminal attempt at homicide, aggravated assault, criminal attempt at arson, causing or risking catastrophe and some minor charges.

He will be held in a juvenile detention center.

The teen's name is not being released because he is a juvenile. He's a middle school student who attends a special program at the high school.

How tragic! Scary too! What is this world coming to when you have to worry about sending your 'middle school' child to school? This really saddens me. :(

How awful! I have a middle school daughter - these kids seem too young to have crazy ideas like this. Our world is definitely going downhill.:(

This quote from cnn.com shows you just how small of an area this is. If it can happen here -- it can happen anywhere.
:(

The Red Lion Police Department said all four of its police officers were on the scene.

At my daughter's middle school they make the kids stand outside until 8:35 unless it is REALLY cold. The kids all arrive and stand in a huge bunch outside the doors.

I drop my daughter at 8:35 because I think that mass of humanity is just an accident waiting to happen. My DH thinks I'm silly. We've never had a shooting in one of our schools, but if you wanted to shoot someone that would be the way to go. You would be sure to hit somebody.
