shoes

I guess I should update how my Crocs did on my trip. I was at the parks for three days and wore my Croc flip flops the first day and the regular ones for the other two days. I did ok in the flip flops and just LOVED the regular crocs. I couldn't believe how good my feet felt at the end of each day. I will never wear any other shoe to Disneyland!

I would wear my Crocs every day, but they certainly conduct static electricity. I get shocked whenever I touch anything which is really annoying!

What style did you get?

I've heard so many great things about Crocs, so I just bit the bullet & ordered a pair. I admit I'm not a huge fan of the style of them, but I've spent enough nights walking back to the Fairfield with achy feet! My husband was also awesome enough to buy us both Keen's, so we should be all set!

Another croc fan here. I have probably 6 pair. I have the regular ones and the ones with the fur and some athens (sandals). I LIVE in the sandals in the summer time and mine finally wore out so I bought some new mickey ones when I was in Disneyworld in November. I can't wear the sandals as comfortable as they are though in the parks because my feet tend to sweat when it is really hot and they rub and I get blisters so I wear the normal ones with socks. I know I know it looks weird but to me comfort is everything. And I don't care what it looks like. Like some of the others said I have tried other shoes but I can wear crocs all day and my feet never hurt. I wear the furry ones in the winter WITH socks even and those keep my feet warm and again they are very comfy. I HAVE worn my uggs too as this last trip is was EXTREMLY rainy and those didn't do too bad either but crocs are the best all around if you ask me. :)

I'm a *I don't care if my feet hurt - I love to wear shoes and look good!* kind of gal. So I personally bring along many different pairs of slip on sandles/thongs and I find if I don't wear the SAME one more than a day, they aren't too bad!

I'm with ya on that one! I don't think I could ever stomach wearing shoes I find hideous, no matter how comfortable they are. I have to "feel" cute to be comfortable. I guess it's a catch 22 that way. lol

Flip flops for day and Crocs for afternoon/evening. Crocs are cute, come in many fun colors and styles, are reasonably priced, and are very comfortable.

For serious speed walking I would wear a good walking shoe but for the amount of standing in lines and leisure walking I do at Disneyland my choice is Crocs for comfort.

I do find that Crocs slip easily on wet smooth surfaces. Like tiles and such so I have to be careful with that but otherwise they are perfect for me.

The best advice I can give toward shoes and park-walking is to accommodate for the fact that feet will swell up to 1 whole shoe size throughout the day. When adjusting for swelling, pick athletic or walking shoes that are 1-1.5 sizes larger than your "dress" shoes. Your feet shouldn't slide forward with each step, nor should it wobble or flop like a clog. Even with the size difference, it should feel perfect.

For example, I wear between an 8 and 8.5 in normal street shoes. My running shoe size is 9.5. This allows for foot expansion and complete freedom of motion for my toes. If the toe box is too fitted, I get triangle-shaped toes and they start to blister on the undersides and on the compressed/angular corners.

I suspect this is why so many people wear flip flops or crocs. Feet need room to expand and stay dry. Of course, properly-fitted shoes will do the same thing.

For the last two trips, I wore ASICS Women's GEL-Cumulus 12 Running Shoe. These provide excellent arch support, stability, and ventilation, and they feel like I'm wearing house-slippers. :) I also wear moisture-wicking socks (nylon, never cotton) and a fresh dose of foot powder with each wearing.

This is exactly how my little toes are. I'm just learning how bad my feet are and all of the things that I need to fix about the shoes I wear to prevent them from worsening.

Thanks for coming back to update! So glad the Crocs worked for you. So when you wore the classic ones did you wear any sort of sock? And how did you prep your feet (i.e moleskin or other products)?

Thinking I will have to get a pair of Crocs now. I'm also looking into Birkenstock's because I've heard good things about them from others with foot problems. Looking at getting a shoe I can wear to work (can't be a slip-on clog, it has to have a back) and a pair of Birki's sandals - they have some cute Disney designs!

Do you think these would be good for heel pain? I work in retail and for the past several years (at least 2), I get noticeably bad heel pain after walking or standing for a while (it's not Plantar Fasciitis because I don't have pain in the morning or all day, only when standing/walking for longer than an hour). I have been trying to find shoes to remedy my situation but I've had no luck so far. I can't afford to waste anymore money on shoes that don't work!

When I wore the flip flops, I put large band aids on the balls of my feet. The other two days when I wore the classics, I didn't put anything on my feet nor did I wear socks. The weather was pretty warm, but I carried socks in case I needed them. I made it all day each day without needing sock and/or bandaids/moleskin on my feet.

These are great shoes and Asics is a great brand. Best thing you can do is try on a selection of different styles in-store to see which ones feel correct for your feet.

Have you added regular calf, foot, and toe stretches to your remedy? This will help reduce foot pain a LOT. :)

I have a pair of asics. Love em! Last time i went i wore my nike walking shoes.. they were amazing. As mentioned... you want to make sure you have arch support. Standing on your feet all day with no arch support is killer. I am a dancer and allll about the feet. Make sure they aren't super cheap either. One thing my family always splurges on is footwear. Also the ball and heel of your foot takes most of the weight each day .. make sure they are cushioned! Rock hard shoes = no good.

I actually did a little bit of shoe shopping yesterday and tried on some Asics. They felt okay, except for some excess rubbing on my achilles tendons, but I assume that goes away after they're broken in. I was also intrigued by some Nike Lunarfly+2 shoes that I tried on. My only problem is that it's so hard for me to find good shoes because most of them feel fine at first, but after I've been walking in them a while, I start to feel pain in my heels. It's just so hard to tell what shoes will be perfect for my needs if I only wear them and walk around in them for a few minutes in the store. I wish running shoes weren't so expensive! Then it might not matter if they didn't work out, so long as I could find other ones. :sad1:

I was not aware that calf/foot/toe stretches would reduce foot pain. Is there a source where some helpful exercises can be found? Thank you for your help! :thumbsup2

I tried wearing Keens to the parks last year and fell in love! They are so comfy and you can even get them wet on the water rides and they remain comfy. I can't wait for summer so I can wear my keens. :)

The thing about shoes is that you really have to try them on. If they are not comfy for me right away, then I don't buy them.

Exactly! You know a good pair as soon as you put them on. Ones you have to think about for some time are no good. I've had shoes that are just amazing the second you stand up.

Has anyone heard of TOMS Shoes?

I have a pair and they're the ones that I'm considering wearing when I'm in DL.

Do you guys think that they're good shoes for walking around all day?

I've found that flip-flops make my feet sore and dirty and I absolutely HATE tennis shoes...so I feel like TOMS are my only option
