What do you think? I just found out that my 12 yr old twin boys have outgrown their dress shoes-again. I usually don't like to buy them this time of year because they won't wear them more than once or twice until the fall (our church is casual for summer) and they seem to grow two sizes over the summer.
They will be wearing dress shirts and khakis on formal nights, and polos on casual nights

Can they get by with athletic shoes (or vans) instead of dress shoes for formal nights? I also would prefer not to carry them if not needed. We are on the 7 day-if that makes a difference.
Thanks for your help

My sons have worn their everyday shoes for the formal nights. They don't own any dress shoes and wouldn't wear them if I bought them. But they have grown up in ultra casual San Diego where we've seen flipflops worn at weddings!!! [And the wedding was not at the beach!] My sons wore Dockers and polo shirts for formal night which is dressy for them. My oldest son is a vegan [eats no animal products] and doesn't wear any leather. Just try finding dress shoes for him!!

Sure, they can wear nice athletic shoes. I saw boys in TUXES with athletic shoes on formal nights. :)

Im planning on buying black sneakers for DS when we cruise on the Eastern in Nov. Last time he had dress shoes was for his 1st communion and they were only worn once!
