Help!!!

My dd is in 7th grade sh goes to a charter last yr she was allowed to wear shoes of any color this yr they changed that and I must have missed the memo and got her a dark gray with a lighter gray undrtone colored new balance shoe! with a smidge of pink edging they are very plain!! she comes home today and said her shoes are not allowed!

Help I do not have the money to buy her another pairof shoes!! she has a very wide foot and a narrow heal so we had to buy special inserts and the foot doc recommended new balance! she has pe next semester not now so maybe I could get buy with a cheap flat IF I could find any!!! can you dye shoes?????????????

It sounds like she has special foot needs if your Dr had to recommend shoes. Perhaps your Dr could write a note and she would be allowed to wear them for this semester/year? I would at least explore that avenue. Good Luck.

What is the problem with the shoes? What color are they supposed to be? Is it just the bit of pink or the overall shoe color? I don't know that dying New Balance shoes would work, but if it's the pink, you could probably color that over with a Sharpie.

I agree with PP, have your dr provide a note that she needs to wear these shoes. I don't think I would try to dye this type of shoe.....

she doesnt have a special needs for her feet the doc recommended the brand cause we saw her at the store! LoL the insert is to help with the narrow heal ( i have the same thing)

the shoes have to be ALL white, brown or black supposedly all solid no other colors at all!! Im just tapped out of money now!! We had some car troubles and a few big bills ( car registrations due) so im like UGH!!! of course DD has a anxity issue and has a 504 in place for that and she is stressing out over this ( I am too)

so thanks for letting me vent! we may head to walmart this weekend and hope they have a clearance shoe that fits her! UGH!!

If she has a 504, which I am assuming is a pep, personal education plan, for children with certain situations, conditions, etc that shows there is a special need and all teachers are away of this plan and must adhere to it.

With the 504 and a the issue of needing an "insert" for her heal in order to wear common shoes.....that should be enough for a Dr. to sign off on her needing to wear these shoes. AND speak with the administration explaining your situation, that you are not really asking for special treatment, however with the expense of the shoes, and now additional shoes you would jsut like some time to comply with the new rules.
I bet she would be allowed to wear them until these is a time when you could purchase new shoes. Of course this would probably have to be in writing, including a Dr. note. It is so EASY to get a dr. note for her feet, especially if you are purchasing an "insert" into her footwear. Including in the written agreement a time frame with a final date that she will have shoes that fit the dress code.

Honestly guidance dept and administration will probably be more understanding with you and her feeling if you just speak to them. They are there to help, not cause stress.

Good luck.

I can certainly understand not being able to buy another pair of expensive shoes, but what about a cheep pair of white canvas tennis shoes fromTarget or Walmart or even a resale shop. ten when you have more money you can get a nicer pair of shoes.

I was at WM last night, ours has cheap shoes right now. Good luck, actually...what size is your DD? I have a nice pair of leather Keds that are brand new in the box I'd be willing to send you, if they will work for her. They are a size 5, I bought them from 6pm and they were the wrong size, it would have cost me $6 to return them and I only paid $10 so it wasn't really worth it. lol I'll be happy to send them to you for the cost of shipping if you can use them......

Payless has certain shoes that are able to be dyed, but they are dress shoes. There is Rite dye which you can use to dye cotton. There might even be a shoe dye to dye leather or some other version of it. However, with the shoe being a grey color from the start you would need to strip the color from it first than dye it.

Really your best bet is to check out the local stores and see if you can find some cheap shoes that fit and follow the dress code for now.

Your going to ruin the shoes if you try to dye them. Either get a note or buy her cheap white shoes at walmart.

thanks for the offers her foot is to big Lol I sent a e-mail to the school! waiting for a response!!

on a good note I have been posting stuff on CL and have someone coming to look at some tomorrow so maybe!!!!

This may be a longshot, but do you have a good shoe repair place close to you? Take the shoes in and see if the shoe repair can suggest a product for you to use on the shoes, or if they would be able to do something onsite.

We are really lucky, we have a local shoe repair that just does magic on shoe repair of all types.

I know this is the budget board and you really do need to save some money but some times it is just not worth it! You daughter has a foot that is hard to fit, if you buy a cheap shoe, she is going to be uncomfortable. She has issues with anxiety, if a dye job looks that way I am thinking that it will, she is going to be embarrassed and feel more anxious. I think that maybe look for a way to find the money to buy her another good pair of shoes. Perhaps you could eat from the pantry and skip grocery shopping this week? Roll some change you have around the house? Search for any gift cards you have stuck back somewhere? If it came down to it and it was a true need for my child, I would use a credit card or transfer some money from another account if it is there or even borrow from a family member. Sometimes things just happen and you have to do what you have to do.
