I really don't want to be in sneakers all day- and I know my girls also don't want to be in sneakers- so what other kinds of shoes/sandals work best?

I just bought a nice pair of comfy flipflopsand I am wondering if flip flops aren't the way to go.

Do you bring a change of shoes with you and leave them in the car or locker?

and at the waterparks do we need watershoes? flipflops? barefeet?

Thanks!!

I like my Berkenstocks. (For the best prices, order from QVC). Others have posted that they like Teva's as well.

For what *not* to wear, go to badshoe.com :teeth:

Disney has a lot of walking. Make sure your shoes are comfortable. A spare pair in a locker is a great idea. I always carry a spare pair of socks.

I am a flip flop girl, but I don't reccomend wearing them for Disney walking. I just bought the Spoiler II from Teva, and have been wearing them little by little. The seem very comfortable, and highly rated by other DISers...

I love my Ecco Cosmo sandals for walking a lot. They are so comfy, no break in time. They are like walking on clouds BUT they are not waterproof.

So this Summer, because of my first trip to WDW in August (rainy) I finally bought my first pair of Teva sandals. At first they felt weird, mostly the straps. I thought they'd give me blisters so I put them in the closet. Well, I gave them another try for a couple of weeks before my trip. They were great! I only wore them and wore my Teva flip flops at night for a change. I didn't want to spoil a good thing so I never even used my Ecco Cosmos I brought along!

I got not one blister at all for the first time. Even with my Ecco Cosmos, I started to get a tiny one on my baby toe after about 3 days.

Teva Pretty Rugged!

I wore flip flops every day in the parks this past May. I wear them at home ALL the time, so it was the logical choice for me. I changed style each day, but never changed during the day. I personally would die if I had to wear sneakers, since I never wear them at home. So, in all my rambling, I'm basically saying to wear what you wear at home. If you change shoes each day at home, bring several pair with you. If you always wear flip flops, bring flip flops. If you always wear sandals, bring sandals.

you sound like me!
when we were there in January this year (coldest month we've ever been down there) I felt downright ODD walking around in pants and my sneaks!

I live in my flip flops too...LOVE the Teva Mush ones...but my Old Navy ones are a quick 2nd. I'll bring 4 pairs with me and rotate them out.

I WISH I still had my Tevas...no idea where they went (I think the smell got the better of me and I tossed them) those would be great in the parks too.

Tevas!!!

DH & I both bought a pair a couple of months ago & have been wearing them exclusively (well, not dh when he has to go to work - LOL). They are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Love them!

Since DH and I PH, we always wear our sneakers w/ socks into the parks. When we PH, we usually go back to the car and change into Birkenstocks. The biggest thing here is ARCH SUPPORT! Flip flops are flat and have none (as well as non-shock-absorbing soles). You'd probably be fine for a couple of hours, but after that you'd get pretty achy.

If you're unsure, hit the mall for a couple of hours and walk steadily in your flip flops. If your feet hurt after that, you'll probably need to go another direction.

My backless Clarks have survived over 200 days at WDW.

Go check out the long thread on the budget board re shoes!

;)

Another vote for Teva's here!

I agree that you should wear what you are accustomed to, and what is comfortable to you. Sneakers all day would make me cranky! I HATE when my feet get hot! Also, if (and when!) your feet get wet....sandles dry out MUCH faster than socks and sneaks!

Tevas or Nike Straprunners. These are very comfortable to walk in and are designed to dry quickly when they get wet.

My DD just wore her flip-flops for a 2 day trip to cedar point (forgot the sneakers) and--even though she lives in them at home--was in real trouble by the second day walking on all the hard surfaces. she had 7 blisters, especially on the balls of her feet. I had to break down and buy a $29 pair of cloth sandals which would have cost 4 bucks at the dollar store.

I just got back from 10 days at WDW. DS and I wore our Tevas every day all day long and neither of us got so much as a blister. DH wore his (well broken-in) tennis shoes and got blisters - he even skipped on day to the parks so he could rest his feet - we didn't need to.

Also, do not forget to spray your feet in the morning with spray-on anti-persperant - it really works great!

Another vote for Birkenstocks and Tevas...As others have suggested make sure whatever you wear is broken in prior to going to the World!
