Shockwave error message anyone else get this????

Mal - that is the message I get when I try to log in at work. That computer is just too slow. I dread the day when I get it at home. I have the triple whammy - slow computer, dial up and AOL.

MIne shows up when I am doing the jungle cruise and house cleaning at the same time. I guess if you leave it running without going back to your computer in a long time this shows up. It is fine once I log back in again.

that is exactly what I was doing when I got this error...I have a fairly fast computer just a dial up connection that I am getting rid of ASAP!

First rule of playing VMK: Get DSL. You can try with Dialup, but more times than not you'll get disconnected before you even log on.

Second rule: Don't play while at an Internet Cafe. Their firewall settings will most likely not let you connect to the VMK server.

actually I don't have a problem getting disconnected and while I'll admit VMK is AWESOM when playing on a cable connection you can and I do play on dial up everyday. While I do have my share of crashes I think all types of connections expierence those.

Today was the first time I ever got that shockwave message and I have been playing since the first day of Beta. And I was doing exactly what Belle said playing the jungle cruise(well letting the JC run) while I cleaned house.

Just want to let everyone know that has dial up you can play VMK but if you really want to know what an awesome game it is a cable connection is a must. As Bezoar and the croc said "now that I have tasted it, I want more!"

VMK is a memory eater As I had mentioned in a different thread a while back, just sitting on a bench in VMK was using up 200 megs of memory for me!

I've gotten that message and others that include things references to "sprites". We were using dial-up until Friday night when we got cable modem hooked up! Woo Hoo! But MTLott never had that problem even with dial up. I think mine is a memory issue. Next time I feel like fighting through the computer store, I'll probably pick up some more memory and pop it in and see if that helps.

I get that EVERY DAY! (OR at least since they changed up the Jungle Cruise game.) Just as soon as I play one game of the "new and improved" Jungle Cruise, it shows me my pics, and then that lovely gray box POPS up! I know that I need more memory, just haven't gotten around to price shopping yet. I think I will when I get back from my vacation.

I have never had that happen to me when playing Jungle Cruise. Then again, I don't play Jungle Cruise that often. There's no challenge when all I can score is 20 credits a pop.

With all the web browsers and email clients and AIM that I'm running, I ought to have more memory. Problem is my computer is at its maximum for alloted memory. What I really need is a new machine with a 2.0 GHz CPU and a gig of memory and at least 200 GB of storage, for each hard drive (I should only require two). Oh yeah, and an LCD monitor with a fast refresh rate.

Thought I'd bump this thread since the error you describe, Mal, is back in force. FlyingPegasus was talking about it the other day too.

Today I got "Out of memory loading member 1 of PLAYER-CAST 42, even after purging all purgeable castmembers" in a Shockwave message. You click OK in the dialogue window and...... you might as well reboot and start again.

I have reported it to the White Hand and will keep y'all posted.

Shockwave downloaded or uploaded, which ever today on my computer....not sure if this helps anyone but there must be an update for shock wave.

We have an XP with Roadrunner, and it works most of the time. It has done this to me before, right after I added some new things to the computer. It usually happens if you have too much on the copmuter at the same time. It just can't handle it.

Hmmm... I've seen that error as well, but I always thought it was a VMK Pal error, because I've never seen the error when I've logged in the old fashioned way.

this error happens when you run out of virtual memory on your computer - it has nothing to do with how much is on your hard drive. VMK is VM heavy and typically takes up about half of your VM

Mal. Just pulled some research on that error message and the answer i received was that it was a memory usage error. If it happens again run your task manager and see if it is pegged at 100%. If it is then you probably need to upgrade your ram or even possibly your video card. A short term solution would be to make sure you restart your PC each time before you enter VMK to free up any virtual memory that is in use. Hope this helps and please keep us informed . This is a new error to me.

Ok I get that when I log in with vmk pal and regular it tries to update the shockwave and says purgeable something about have 5 mb of space

And I don't know what virtual memory is! Only 14 can't expect much outta me

EDIT: An error has occurred while copying files to your local disk. The software installation was not completed. Please make sure your local disk is writable and has at least 5 megabytes of free space


And after I click okay it logs me in

Virtual memory is when your PC uses part of your hard drive space as Ram Memort in order to make programs run faster. The drawback is that virtual memory is slower and bog your processor down. If you are getting this error message then your best bet is to go purchase more or higher Ram memory sticks for your computer. For a basic understanding of Virtual Memory read this article
