Shocked with the new furniture

I wasn't as bothered as some with the direction of the renovation. I will say that I think OKW lost a little of it ambiance in the change. My main complaint was the comforter on the bed. That thing could have stood aganst the wall on it's own. Stiff and rough. Nothing comfortable about it at all.

You can use it to divide the entrance if you are in a building 30 or lower where the living room guests have to go through the master bedroom to go to the bathroom. Just set it up on edge.

:rotfl::rotfl2: Thanks for the laugh this morning! I usually take the comforter off the bed, but that new one is so darn heavy, I was afraid if it fell on top of me I wouldn't be able to get out from under it! ;)

Maybe the mattress is just a matter of personal preference?

We have always had a problem sleeping on the King-mattress at OKW. It was harder than any mattress we had ever slept on, anywhere.

When we were last there in February - we had one of the "new" mattresses. We enjoyed it so much, when we got home, we went to buy the same mattress at our local bedding store.

Different strokes?

I can just see the headlines. Tourist Killed at Disney World by Falling Bedspread. :rotfl:

LOL, too funny! :rotfl:

One good thing about the new beds at OKW is they aren't as high as they used to be. I'm only 5'1"....I thought about adding a ladder to my packing list. :)

Have not stayed in a renovated OKW villa yet. How dark are the new colors? A Key West theme suggests light pastel colors in my mind.

I guess Im in the small group who just loved OKW and the renovations... I had zero complaints about the furnishings and cleanliness. Mine, 3123 1bd was spotless, smelled fresh and was so pretty. I liked the floors, and my DD11 slept really good on pul out. I napped there one afternnon and it was awesome. In the master bd, the mattress was perfect. I personally liked the color combos too.:confused3 no mold or anything.. less than spotless anywhere in our unit. Sorry about your stay being less than magical

This picture is a perfect example of a "poorly" refinished "good" piece of furniture. Surprisingly, I don't mind the dark wood but if they weren't going to replace the furniture during the rehab, then they should have done a better job refinishing it than this!

Except the King Size headboards were not refinished, those are brand new. The original king beds at OKW had a metal bed frame.

The queen beds in the studios have refinished original headboards, but that monstrosity in the photo is a brand new king bed headboard.

An original King bed is shown below:

It may be brand new to OKW, Chuck, but it looks like someone took a spray can of dark lacquer to an existing piece of furniture, they look cheap or cheaply done, just my opinion.

Yes, but if they had replaced ALL the furniture with new, something tells me that it would be the same quality as that horrible headboard. That headboard actually makes a good case for refinishing the original furniture.

I wonder why they did not keep the original king beds. :confused3 They certainly look better than the "new" headboards.

I agree with the others, Old Key West brings to mind pastels colors, lightweight natural wood/wicker furniture and natural fabric soft goods, not dark and/or plastic materials.

Excellent point! Over all I'm happy with the refurb! I would have preferred to keep more of that old Key West tropical charm I fell in love with but OKW is still my favorite!

We found nicks on the bedside tables in the master bedroom where you could see the old pickled wood color under the brown paint. Same with the table.

And I agree on the sleeper sofa and loveseat. That fabric feels like hardware cloth - if you need a dermabrasion on your legs, all you need to do it sit on that couch.

I liked the old sleeper sofa with the bar better than this new platform one. Or the one at BWV and BCV -those are much more comfortable for sleeping, but nearly as bad for sitting.

But our king sized bed was very comfortable. We've never had a bad bed a OKW.

We also had a bad problem with closing the sleeper sofa. It was bent or something and you had to reach underneath and push the works inside to get it to close. Never had that problem with the older ones. And these newer ones are hard to open up, too. When you try pulling them open, the sofa slides on the floor unless you hold it with your other foot.

We had a similar problem with the sleeper sofa in our 2 bedroom at AKV-Kidani back in April. Whatever it had been put back after the last guests got the sheets jammed somehow and it was nearly impossible to actually pull it out. It took two of us a good 15 minutes just to get the whole thing out and then once we pulled the bed out, it was stuck in an upside down V shape and we couldn't get the middle point of the V to stay down. My dad was actually standing on the bed trying to push it down. We were minutes away from calling the front desk (we didn't call earlier for fear it was truly broken and we'd have to change rooms. Half of our party was already asleep in one of the bedrooms) when he finally got it to snap into place. We were worried about having problems the rest of the trip but it was fine every day after that and we put it away every morning and took it out every night.

I wish I had taken a photo of my dad standing on the pull out trying not to bang his head on the ceiling fan wearing his bathroom at 12:30 am. It was hilarious. I was so nervous he was going to break it but it really seemed like it was already seriously broken. Fortunately it was just oddly jammed.

I think they bought the King headboards unfinished then, as stated, did a very crappy job of staining them.
