Posting for a friend (woman) who is going to disney cruise shortly.

Because of some unexplained reasons, I cannot wear swimsuit. Can I wear a shirt and short and enter pool? or will I be out of place?
Any other outfit suggestions is appreciated.

I would try and get some board-type shorts - if you have those men's shorts (or men's type shorts) and a shirt I think that is fine. My DH wears the bathing suit shorts bottoms and a rash guard (can;t get so much sun). I'm sure a regular t-shirt would be ok too, but probably not very comfortable. I would get a rash guard.

My DH wears a regular t-shirt in the pool all the time and wore one on the Magic I don't think your friend will have any problems.

I would get a rash gaurd and some board shorts or even men swim trunks. even if the regular t-shirt is allowed i do not recommend it. When wet reg t-shirts stick uncomfortably to the body and take long to dry where as rash gaurds dry fast and easily like a reg swimsuit and are much more comfortable.

It's what my whole family wears at water parks to protect from the sun

I agree. See if she can find some board shorts to wear or even bike shorts if she could wear those. I would certainly lean more towards wearing a rash guard shirt with either a bathing suit top under or a sports bra underneath. Regular shirts can be so uncomfortable wet (and rather unattractive wet on a woman!) that I'd lean more towards a rash guard. These days they can be found everywhere from Target to Old Navy to LL Bean.

If you can't find a rash-guard shirt, or don't like them, you might try Under Armor type T-shirts - Target has some shirts made with similar material (Champion makes them, I think?)

We do aquatic therapy where I work, and this is what we recommend because they don't hold as much water as cotton, so are easier to move in, they dry quicker, and are easier to get off and on.

To answer your question more directly. Yes... she can. I don't think there are any rules aside from "you can't swim naked".

Tell her not to even worry about it. I wear shorts and tshirts in the pools and never feel uncomfortable. My son does it too. Like others, I would recommend swim shorts of some kind. There are a lot out there. I got mine on ebay. Regular shorts get very heavy in the water.

I went snorkeling out off the Dry Tortuga's one year... I missed ONE spot on my back... BURNED TO A CRISP.

Since then I've always worn a rash-guard shirt in the sun.

I agree with the PP's about the rash guard -- much more comfortable than a T-shirt.

Also, go with the board shorts. I don't know if they would have to be a certain length or not, but there is a website called Board Shorts World that makes custom shorts in several lengths. (I learned about them last year on the Budget board, so I hope it's okay I posted the link.) I ordered from them and was really happy with the service, not to mention the product is Made in the USA.

Here ya go: http://boardshortsworld.com/

ETA: As for looking out of place, if I saw someone at the pool or beach dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, I probably would just think they were concerned about getting to much sun. I'd give them Kudos for that and go back to my book. No big deal.

i dont see anything wrong with it. my dad always wears just a normal t-shirt swimming and no one's ever said anything. i don't think they'd be out of place or feel awkward- after all, everyone is busy enjoying his or her own vacation, not critiquing an outfit. so do what is most comfortable and have fun!

She won't look out of place overdressing for the pool. It's the people who wear way too skimpy bathing suits to the pool who are out of place. If you have ever been to Aquatica (Sea World's water park) you will know what I am talking about. Women in thong bikinis at a family park is just disgusting!!

I like the tank/shorts from Lands End. You can mix and match. They fit well, the shorts don't get "bigger" in the water and dry quickly. Great to walk to excursions in. :thumbsup2

The tops hold everything well, the rest flows nicely over the waist and hips, not tightly. The skirts are too much material. Shorts are more slimming and comfortable. I saw one pair of black board shorts too. http://www.landsend.com/pp/StylePage-398101_A6.html?CM_MERCH=Shopping_Cart

I wear a rashguard from Lands End and a pair of their swim shorts (over a swimsuit bottom) on a regular basis for swimming, whether it's in the pool or at the beach.

I prefer it for modesty and sun protection sake.

So the answer is yes, it's an option.

Thanks for all the replies. I will forward the information to my friend.

This forum is just amazing.
