Did past brides ship down there favors, programs, etc. to their hotel? If so, was it safe, did it get there ok, what did the hotel do with them before you got there and how long before you went down did you send out your stuff????

My planner said that this is an option but it freaks me out.

I wrote about my experience with shipping stuff down in my TR, but here's the recap:

A week before I left I shipped 3 boxes to my resort via UPS that included all of my favors (lenox mickey & minnie ear ornaments), our parents gifts and the gift for my flower girl.

Because I was using my favor as a place card for dinner, I had to pick up the boxes and drop the ornaments at Franc's for my Planner.

Now, the obstacles I encountered were more situational than anything. I had no problem with shipping the items. There was no problem with the resort receiving and holding the boxes. However b/c we stayed at POFQ which is the sister resort of POR, I had to pick my boxes up at POR. I didn't know this, so that added some extra running around to an already hectic day. But my boxes arrived just fine. Nothing was damaged. It worked quite well. hth. :thumbsup2

I am, too!!! I'm so paranoid!! LOL!

It's always a risk shipping anything, and I was nervous about the ornaments and picture frames. Everything was in it's original packaging and then packed into larger boxes with packing peanuts. I think as long as you ship it with a good carrier (I prefer UPS and have had problems with both FedEx and DHL in the past) and package it really well, you should be fine!

We shipped all our ceremony and reception items, and I shipped my dress. TRUST FedEx! :lmao: It worked fabulously, and we didn't have to lug stuff on the plane.

We sent the wedding stuff to our first hotel about 10 days before check-in. (This was a Sheraton). They got it less than a week later, and when we checked in they brought it from storage for us.

We also shipped Costco waters to Beach Club Villas and Animal Kingdom Lodge, again about 10 days before. We had no trouble getting these from bell services either.

And of course, I've often raved about dress shipping to Carolyn Allens. We insured the dress for more than $1,000 so that I could buy something off the rack if necessary, but there was no trouble. It arrived in less than a week. CA steamed it, brought it to me, picked it up, and sent it back to my house. SO easy! :goodvibes

lurkyloo, if you don't mind my asking, how much was it for CA to do all that?

Let's see... it was $15 to store the dress before the wedding. Steaming was about $80, and then I just paid the actual cost of shipping the dress from Orlando to my house, which was about $35 through UPS (I wanted CA to use FedEx cuz it was cheaper, but they only use UPS...). CA can also clean and preserve the dress before they ship it to you, but that costs $$$ and I didn't want all that.

Hope that helps!

Shipping the dress is soo easy!

Toni just ship the stuff...save yourself the stress. It will work out fine!

LOL thanks girls! I feel much better now :goodvibes

On a side note, after I posted this my mom informed me that my aunt is driving down to the wedding and she has a pick-up truck so guess who is taking my favors :lmao: but hopefully this post will help someone else that comes along with the same question!

Toni that is great!!!!! Even better I think!!

Thanks for posting this Toni!

I just had a convo this past weekend with my mom and SIL and they were all negative about the shipping of the dress down to CA...

I don't know if I'm driving or flying yet, but SIL said if I was driving I could save the $ and take the dress with me...

What do you guys think about that? Or should I just say to heck with it and ship it down either way?

Just curious what you all think...

Thanks!

Lori

No offense, but they're nuts! How much will you save by carrying it yourself? $45?

Tell them that if they're so opposed to you shipping the dress, THEY can schlep it to Florida for you! :rotfl:

Seriously, how many millions of packages are moved by FedEx/UPS each day, and how many are lost? You hear horror stories every once in a while, but that's because the millions of satisfied customers aren't posting all over the Internet "I actually got my package from FedEx/UPS today!!!"

it sounds like you suggest shipping it down even if we end up driving?

(I agree with you, I don't really want to have to deal with it in the car, bringing it into a hotel for on the way down, putting it back in the car...) I actually think it will get to FL. looking a lot better if I ship it than if we drive and it comes along for the ride...

Thanks!
Lori

Well now I think I have decided to use Carolyn Allen's to ship my dress and have it steamed but when should I book them?

Oh golly, now I'm gonna be the one who made you ship it, and then FedEx sent it to Borneo, and you had to get married in a potato sack...:rotfl2:

Any time! For my February wedding, I booked in January, but you could do it sooner and just check in with them as the wedding gets closer.

Good to know! Thank you!!!!

ty for all the information .. we arent sure if we are driving or flying it will depend on the air cost with 5/6 ppl..

BUT i may ship the dress and even a box or 2 down if we drive so we can have a more comfertable ride down ..lol
