I'm sure there's a thread out there, but search is too slow and there's too many threads to read, so my apologies if this is out there somewhere. :)

Now, with that said, can anyone give some ideas/tips as to what I should put in a box and ship to my resort ahead of time? I know this seems like a simple thing I should be able to come up with, but I think it helps to get an idea as to what others are doing, or have done.

Thanks in advance!

:)

When we travel, we always ship those items that you always say..."I really hope these don't explode in the suitcase!". Shampoo, liquid medicines, shaving gel/cream, etc.

If there is any extra room, my DH has been known to slip in a bottle of rum. It is lovely to sit on the balcony with a drink in your hand, knowing that you didn't have to pay the crazy $10+ per drink that the resorts charge.

It depends on how you want to travel. I like to go with just a small carryon with what I might need overnight in case of flight problems. So I put most of my clothes, extra shoes, all of my toiletries (I don't bring a lot, no makeup and I use the shampoo and soap provided etc.), suntan lotion, snacks, coffee and filters, extra sunglasses, those kinds of things. My box for two people weighed 23 lbs. and it cost $16.00 to ship it from Wisconsin via UPS ground service. The resort (POR) didn't charge me anything to retrieve the box. When I sent it home (I had packed extra packing tape and a pre-typed lable in the box with my home address on it) from the concierge desk they did charge a $5.00 fee which I knew about and it was worth it so I didn't have to worry about waiting for my luggage at the airport in either direction or worry about lost luggage.

On a side note, a lady behind us in one of the lines said her luggage had been lost and she was still waiting for it - going on the third day. She was from the eastern part of the United States (not that it matters). At that point I was very happy I had shipped mine. I have done this before and have never had any problems.

I meant to add that everything goes in ziplock bags. It saves space because you can squish the air out. I also pack OTC medicine (small amounts of whatever I think we might need because it's very expensive at WDW) but never prescription meds in the box.

Can anyone tell me why, when I put in the address for POP, UPS said it couldn't find it? What am I doing wrong? I am trying to get a quote for how much to ship from Utah to POP.

Are you using this address? We had Staples send a couple cases of spring water to my fiance's kids who stayed at Pop last fall and we had no problems with this address...

Disney’s Pop Century Resort
1050 Century Drive
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

That's the address I found for them also. You could try calling the resort itself at 407-938-4000 and ask them what their street address is as well to confirm.

A lot of people mistakenly put the town in as Orlando, but it's actually in Lake Buena Vista.

Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity, what size box did you use?

I'm not sure of the size exactly - but a close guess would be 23" L x 13" H x 12" W. I carried it several blocks in a blizzard to mail it and it fit easily in my arms and I'm a small person (5'2", just over 100lbs - if that helps any).

I did this the last time we went and it worked out well. I put some plastic hangers in the box because there are never enough to hang up your clothes and I hate to have wrinkles. (and hate to iron too !!) Also, put in my over the counter medication and some plasticware and paper bowls because we usually keep cereal and milk in the room for the kids. I can't remember what else I sent, but it was worth it. These were just some bulky things that were easier to send than to pack. We didn't bother to bring the hangers home and the paper stuff was discarded when we used it. It was a good idea.

HI...

Whoa cool:cool1: ...

How does one send packages from the resort back home ?
Was it UPS or USPS ?
How do you pay for the shipping ?

Am going in late May to CBR so hope those chages don't go into effect just yet... Was gonna just ship "disposible" items like diapers/food etc... But if i can ship back out might be able to add additional stuff to lighten the amount of stuff to schlep while traveling.

Thanks!

I believe you can get a pre-paid shipping label from your carrier of choice (UPS or FedEx) and then put it on the box and take it to the front desk before you leave. From what I hear, both carriers visit each resort on a daily basis.

I didn't get the pre-paid lable because I didn't know how much my box was going to weigh on the return trip. I just took my box to the concierge desk at the resort and they weighed it, put the UPS label on it (because that is the carrier I requested) and then I asked that the charges be put on my room charge since I was shipping the box the day before. I just kept out a change of clothes for the next day and put them in my carryon. You could also pay cash, check, credit card. They will also ship FedEx as PP said but I wouldn't try USPS since they do not pick up or drop off at each resort.

I believe the charge to retrieve the package at the resort is only applying to the "conference" resorts and I don't think CBR is one of those. Those charges were in effect when I went and I wasn't charged to get my package so I think it's only at resorts such as CSR, Grand Floridian, etc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Folks,

Wow ! That'll help a lot with the ole airport shuffle... Escpecially with a 4 year old and and 8 month old's stuff !

Thanks a ton !

I'm shipping 3 things for our upcoming trip, hopefully I won't get charged. All would qualify as small and I'm only doing it as the Disney Dream makers couldn't do what I wanted.

I would think though that a box from Disney Shopping ought to automatically be excempt and hopefully, given that it is valentines, a couple of boxes that are clearly from Candy Companies will be treated likewise :)

We were going to bring a suitcase of items but with the baggage check fee, having garden grocer deliver everything, worked out much better for us.

I agree with previous posts. If you have little ones, this is also a GREAT way to take enough diapers, wipes, bottle liners, bibsters and any thing else you might need! This way, you don't take up precious luggage space, and you don't have to paythe super high prices at the parks! (Don't forget to send your extra batteries, too!)

I aways ship stuff home so that I have more room for souvenirs and am lighter coming home. Funny story, though. I was down in November for a conference and then some much needed post-conference R&R and had picked up tons of stuff at the exhibitors' hall, so I wanted to ship it home. I've done this so much that the people at the UPS store at the Formosa Gardens Boulevard shopping center are starting to recognize me. Well, I had two boxes this time one for the conference giveaways and one for my "work" clothes as well as other things I didn't need for the rest of the time. The UPS counter guy (a super nice guy named Army) said he thought I should cut one of the boxes down because there was too much space at the top. He proceeded to open up the box to cut it down and OMG THAT one had my clothes in it (including some undies and bras - I'd washed them first) right there on top. My face was SOOOOO red, I just about died. He was awesome and didn't skip a beat though. I actually had to go back and send out a birthday gift for my Mom and he was there again - thought I'd die! He was so nice and never mentioned a thing.

Other then the resorts address what infomation did you include? Name? Reservation number? Anything else needed to ensure the package shipped is recieved upon arrival?
Thanks
