Shipping to resort before trip

I got this from another thread:
http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29939917&postcount=2

Don't ship it through the Post Office...

Here is why... The US Post Office does NOT recognize Disney streets, any and all mail being sent to Disney through the US Post Office will go to the PO Box (regardless of how you address it) as the post office does not deliver to Disney directly.

From the PO Box it is sorted into sections and then specific locations before it is delivered out to property. This can take quite a bit of time.

UPs, Fed Ex, DHL, any kind of courier service will deliver directly to the hotel.

My suggestion would be to get the package ready and send it out about 7 days prior to your arrival (you can send it further out if you like they will hold it).

If you give yourself enough time you can ship it ground service which is the cheapest.

As for who to address it to you would want to address it like this:

The name of the person who is the LEAD name on the reservation (may not be you, but it is easier to find that way)
C/O the hotel you are staying at/ Front Desk
The address of the hotel
And put HOLD for guest check in and the date (you can put the res # too if you want, but it is not really needed).

So it would look something like this

John Smith
C/O Disney's Wilderness Lodge Front Desk
Hold for guest arrival 4/02
901 Timberline Drive
Lake Buena Vista, Fl 32830

Here is a list of the resort address' (again this can ONLY be used for courier services, US Post office will not deliver to the property directly)

Thanks! We are shipping all of our snacks that we will need down along with with the diapers and formula. I am also shipping a case of beer so we don't have to pay an arm and a leg for it there!

Now I just have to get myself organized enough to gather my stuff together, pack it up, write up address labels, and bring it to UPS. Do you think 9 months is enough lead time? :rotfl: :rotfl:

Just curious, how much does it cost to ship a case of beer? Hubby would love it if we did that!

He proceeded to open up the box to cut it down and OMG THAT one had my clothes in it (including some undies and bras - I'd washed them first) right there on top. My face was SOOOOO red, I just about died. He was awesome and didn't skip a beat though. I actually had to go back and send out a birthday gift for my Mom and he was there again - thought I'd die! He was so nice and never mentioned a thing.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I actually ened up getting 2 18 packs and it weighed 32lbs. I had 2 other boxes as well, 8 & 12 lbs and it was $44 UPS. Now I suggest packing it before you get to UPS becuse they may not ship it if the know it is beer.

Not that it should necessarily persuade you one way or another, but you may want to be aware that shipping alcohol (and tobacco, fyi) across certain state lines is illegal. It may not be where you live, I don't know, but when thinking about shipping alcohol you should always check the laws in the areas you're both sending from and sending to just in case. Wouldn't want that kind of rain on your vacay. ;)

I think a bottle of Scotch would be more cost effective :lmao:

I don't mean to insult anyone, but wouldn't it make more sense to just buy these items when you arrived in Florida?

Since this thread has sort of strayed :offtopic: anyway....... I don't understand how that storage service (the one that delivers) is cost - effective either.
People talk about the convenience of having plates, toiletries etc... available when you get there, but the cost is prohibitive. I could buy new stuff and throw it out for much less than their service.

When we travel, we always ship those items that you always say..."I really hope these don't explode in the suitcase!". Shampoo, liquid medicines, shaving gel/cream, etc.

If there is any extra room, my DH has been known to slip in a bottle of rum. It is lovely to sit on the balcony with a drink in your hand, knowing that you didn't have to pay the crazy $10+ per drink that the resorts charge.

Good Idea.. because these are the things that could dampen the spirit of our vacation if the explode inside our bags...

Also shipping or mailing alcohol is against FAA regulations. They do not want the alcohol in the cargo hold of the airplane because it is a fire hazard. In fact I know that USPS will not even let you use an alcohol box for mailing purposes even if there is no alcohol in the box. So just be aware of the hazard and think of other people when they ask you at the shipping center if the package contains any liquid or flammable. It is for your and your fellow plane companions protection.

It is??? I always pack a bottle of wine in my suitcase and check it. I had no idea it was against regulations. I've never had anyone say anything to me about it. Until they do, I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that :-) I don't think wine is especially flammable, is it?

I shipped down a box of stuff to fill my new Owners Locker. I sent down a corkscrew (see paragraph above :thumbsup2 ), larger coffee mugs, coffee filters, coffee, sugar, plastic plates/bowls/cups, various medicines/first aid to store in my locker, lint brush, USB cable, rain ponchos, laundry soap, dryer sheets, sponges, dish soap, batteries, playing cards, ear plugs (DH hates loud noises), pressed penny machine, shaving creme, full sized shampoos, sharpies, razors, bubble bath..

Okay, phew!!! I know the state I live in has laws about buying alcohol by mail, so I'm assuming they have a dumb law about shipping it too so I didn't even try it. Its like the dumb law that you can't buy alcohol on Sundays. Someone explain that to me....

Okay, back on topic now.

does anyone know--are there prepaid boxes that you can get from any of the courier services--i.e., a flat fee type box?
