A couple of weeks ago there was mention on the podcast about two companies that ship luggage? Does anyone have their names, or links?

My daughter's there on ICP right now and coming home in August. We delivered her and all of her stuff by car in May, planning to return by car to pick her up as well. (good excuse for family vacation time) However, as gas costs skyrocket, it may be cheaper to fly her home and ship her stuff. (including flying the four of us round trip for a vacation)

Plus, the 22 hour drive (one way!) was not the idyllic family bonding experience I'd hoped for. If the price of sanity is the cost of a plane ticket, it's worth considering.

We'd be shipping from Orlando to Detroit, probably about 3 or 4 of those Rubbermaid totes' worth.

Any suggestions?

I think it was www.theluggageclub.com

But looking at their prices (and the price of airfare) it's probably cheaper to drive. :thumbsup2

(although that doesn't include the price of your sanity)

we used to ship household goods to college on the Greyhound bus..... not sure if that is an option for you

I was at the post office a couple of weeks ago and I saw some one shipping boxes and small Rubbermaid totes. I have no idea what she was being charged, but the totes were duct taped and the Postal worker didn't seem to object. You might want to check into that.

I personally hope these types of shipping services become more affordable how awesome would it be just to get on the airplane and not have to worry about your luggage.

I always seem to need two suitcases and not because I pack alot of stuff but I need one for my clothes and then another smaller bag with my toiletries. I use to bring the toiletry bag on the plane with me but now with all the restrictions with liquid I have to check that bag, which now costs me 25.00 dollars plus the 15 dollars it was to check my first bag. It it cost a little over a hundred dollars to ship my luggage I would seriously consider it just to not have to deal with my luggage at the airport! In a perfect world!

I second the UPS idea or even FedEx ground shipping. That would be a lot cheaper.

I shipped two huge suitcases home from Orlando to WI via UPS when I was returning from being a CP. I then drove home with my computer equipment and precious electronics in the car. That was a MUCH better idea than the other way around. Never ship a computer unless it's a laptop.

I would just secure it and take it to UPS.

We usually try to take an extra empty flat box or two in our luggage in case we need to ship stuff home. If your down there and don't have a box, you can probably get one at the Winn Dixie.

You can bring your package to any front desk at a Disney on property resort and they will take your credit card info and the package. They will send it to shipping to have your package weighed and then the UPS charge will just appear on your credit card.

This UPS fee is MUCH cheaper than the Disney shipping fees from the stores (like Downtown Disney).

We just got back and shipped two boxes down via UPS and it was cheaper than paying the luggage fee. Of course our airline didn't have a fee yet (northwest) but we still found it easier to ship a couple of boxes and not have to check luggage and go to the baggage claim.

wow! it's pricey getting your luggage shipped! It's actually cheaper to bring nothing and just find a Kohl's and buy new clothes.
