I have a question about shipping items that we purchase home. We are going to be leaving to come home the friday before Christmas. And since I plan to get some Christmas presents while I am there, what are the chances that they will arrive before Christmas?

The Friday before Christmas as in December 24? ;) Or December 17? Big difference :teeth: You'd have to ask; what's likely now would be different then, although you MAY be able to pay (more, naturally) for Express or UPS/FedEx shipping).

Can you bring an extra suitcase (a fold up one or pack one inside the other)and use it for presents or spread the clothes and presents among the suitcases?

Go to www.ups.com and put in your zip code and 32830 (zip for Lake Buena Vista, FL) to see what the time in transit is to your house. If it is 1 or 2 days, I would say ground shipping with UPS is good ~ if it is 3 days or more you should use UPS 3 Day Select!!

HA HA ..... :rotfl2: the 17th, sorry I forgot to mention that...

Ah, in that case :teeth: pretty good. Ask what method they use, of course, and be prepared to pay extra for express shipping. And do consider ksjayhawks' suggestion of a collapsible duffel - additional luggage fees may be cheaper than shipping costs!

I think it maybe cheaper to bring an extra suitcase. That week is the busiest week for shipping and unless you did a 2 or 3 day UPS service (which would most likely be more expensive than the extra luggage fee) you would run a strong risk of them not getting there in time.

I am not sure how long you are going or if you have a good idea of what you are planning to get people, but another option is if you are staying a week to shop the first day or two that you get there and then send gifts back at the beginning of the week, instead of the last day.

I've sent stuff home with no problems. Just bring the boxes & packing material you need along with you so you don't have to buy them. You will need to get yourself to a place willing to accept the packages though, and that can be hard to find. I sent mine back from Universal's Portofino but I'm not sure where they would do the weighing ect at WDW.

I also tend to think that an extra bit of luggage might be your best option even if it means buying a cheap piece at Walmart when you are in Florida so you can avoid paying the fee to get it there. The $45 or whatever you'll spend to fly a 50lb bit of luggage home with you would probably be less money then the cost of mailing it to be home by Christmas.

Have a very nice trip.

If you have room, you could take flat rate boxes from the Post Office. Since the cost is the same no matter the weight or (US) destination, you could have the postage already on the box. The boxes are not really large, so this won't work if you are shipping large items.

Priority Mail should get to your recipients within your one week time period.

The boxes are free and you can have them sent to your home; no shipping cost, either.

In the past, we have always taken an extra suitcase inside another suitcase and used it to bring home gifts, or had it filled with snacks for the week and packed it with gifts for the return trip. With luggage cost on some airlines, this might not be your cheapest alternative, though.
