Shipping Meds and medical food to the Hard Rock Hotel - urgent advice needed..

I need some advice please....

We are travelling to the Hard Rock in Orlando in September..

My son needs medication and liquid feed shipping to him, which my medical supplier in the UK is happy to do, we have doctors letters etc so all seemed well..

Today I am told that to get supplies delivered through customs without a hitch we have to get the name and social security number of someone working at the hotel who is willing to sign for the medication...

This is ludicrous - I have rang the HRH and they were perplexed by this request. Apparently this is a rule set by US Customs. Who in their right mind is going to supply me with their Social Security number?

Does anyone have advice for me? I have been told you are the people to ask.

Who do you have to contact with the social security number? Is it possible to have the person at the HRH contact them directly, thereby eliminating you from the loop?

Living in a border town, I can see why they are doing this. I know you are shipping medical supplies, but some sneaky people ship OTHER things... of the um, herbal medicine kind and they need to be able to track those kind of packages in case they are suspicious. Doesn't make it right or wrong, it just is a fact of life. A few bad apples ruin it for all.

Can you carry the medications with you and ship the food? Maybe they won't be so hard on the food.

Would it be more convenient to pay for an extra bag and bring it with you? I don't know how long you're going for so maybe that's not feasible.

Have you asked your medical supplier if they have a corresponding company in the US they work with?

If they do, and it is not unusual, the US company could prepare and ship the items. More than likely the cost will end of being less as they would be using domestic (and possibly even ground) shipping and Customs would not be involved.

I have to supply my medical company here with the number. They then forward it to US customs.

We are carrying 5 days worth. We would have to carry 30 bags worth of food for the fortnight and isn't feasible.

Originally this was how it was working, a company in Florida was going to send the supplies on behalf of our company, but for some reason they have decided they are now shipping it.
