I have shipped packages ahead on previous trips (OKW in 2008 and AKV in 2009 & 2010) and so I am not completely unfamiliar with the process. We have always used UPS to ship from home, but IIRC, when we tried to ship the box back to Michigan (from AKV), they told us that we could not use UPS unless we had our own account. They ended up shipping it back via FedEx but it took them almost 2 hours to figure out how to do it.

Does anyone have recent experience with shipping a package home? Can you offer any advice? We are sending down 2 boxes, one with non-perishables and one with baby supplies. More than likely, only one box will need to be shipped back home. I just want to try and avoid the huge hassle that we experienced last time.

You could try shipping from one of the resort convention business centers. I would think that they have accounts with all of the shippers.

They are located at BCV/YC, BLT/Contemporary, and BWV/BWI.

Is it a lot cheaper to ship a box home than to pay to check an extra bag with the airline? I had never considered this possibility.

Last year we stayed at the VWL and when it was time to ship back our christmas tree and such, we just took the box to the gift shop there and they handled shipping it back to us, it was not hard at all. They even shipped it ground, for a lot less money, even though the form they gave us to fill out did not give that as an option. Turns out they can still ship it that way, you just have to ask.

I never thought to take the box to the gift shop:idea:...I always went to the front desk. This sounds like a much better idea.

We've paid about $20 so it is comparable to the checked bag fee for the airline. We try to travel fairly light so sometimes, we don't even bring a checked bag. If that is the case, all of our "oversized" liquids get shipped in the box, along with the food. For this trip, one of the boxes is baby supplies (wipes, diapers, food and formula) which will be used up during the week. If we brought it in a checked bag, the bag would go home empty. I know many people would fill it with souvenirs, but we don't buy nearly enough to justify an entire suitcase.

I just double checked with my DH and he first took it up to the hotel concierge where they taped it up, and then he took it to the gift shop to be mailed out per the concierge instructions. I don't know if this was unique to the WL or if all the resorts handle it this way, but it did not seem to be complicated at all, and I think it was around $20 (to go from Fl to Seattle)... cheaper than our airline would have charged for a checked bag.

I will be staying at BWV this June and I plan to ship some items from the resort. I called BWC and asked if I could mail my packages through USPS since I want to use Priority mail Boxes. I was informed I could and that the boxes would be picked up from the resort as well.

There is a fedex shop right outside DDT, if you go out the hotel plaze area by the Hilton & Doubletree, take a left at the light by the WDW sign and it is down on the right next to Steak n Shake and the Country Inn hotel. We always mail back our stuff.
Its about $20 to by the box pack it and ship.

We have always shipped things home and always used the gift shop to ship thru with no problems

The best bet with Priority Mail is to use the Flat Rate boxes, where you pay 1 price for what's in the box, instead of paying by the weight of the item.

I send a lot of college care packages and have found that, unless your items are unusually heavy, it is almost always cheaper to go with weighed boxes rather than the flat rate option. The prices for the Flat Rate boxes are really high.

I shipped three boxes home from Kidani a few weeks ago with no problem. The bellman brought them from my room to the concierge who completed the shipping slips for me. I shipped everything - remaining baby supplies, all our clothes and souvenirs.
