I am getting ready to make reservations for our shore excursions and had read that the charges would be applied to my "shipboard account". Can anyone tell me exactly what that means?
As of now our cruise is paid in full, but we haven't paid any extra. I think I had read somewhere that you could pay for credits or something like that. Can someone explain that to me as well. I'm guessing that this all works together so that maybe you don't have to carry cash or something, but I wasn't sure...just wanted to get a better explanation if I could!

Thanks!

All shore excursions booked thru DCL are billed to your stateroom. There is no way to pay for the excursions in advance.

You can call DCL and put a credit in a stateroom account-I don't know what the mininum amount is.

A shipboard account is the place where everything you purchase onboard be it drinks, shore excursions, stuff from the shops, etc. is billed to. Everyone has to register a credit card or you can put down cash, traveller's checks, Disney Reward Cards, etc. for the shipboard account.

You can either pay off the shipboard account before you leave the ship with cash, traveller's checks, etc. or you can just have all your charges kept on the on the credit card you registered at check in.

The ship is cashless, meaning everything purchased get put on your shipboard account via your KTTW cards (your key to the world card)....this is a credit card size card that acts as your onboard charge card and room key.

You can definately bring cash with you for room service tips, extra tips for the bar staff, porters for your luggage, but basically everything else gets put on your KTTW card and charged to you shipboard account.

Now, before you leave home, if you want, you can add money to your shipboard account. You can put any amount, but let's just say you put $200 on your account and then when you spend $200 onboard your account would be paid off.

Shore excrusions get charged to your ship board account on or before the day you take the excursion. You don't need to have a credit balance, these get settled just like any ship board purchase. Also if for some reason the excursion is cancelled, you don't see any charge for it.

We usually use a debit card to cover our account. However, anyone using this option needs to check with their bank to see if there are any daily purchase limits that could impact the approval of the payment. We had this situation once. There are ways around that. And you can always pay cash even if you've left a credit/debit card on file.

I wanted to avoid any worries about finances on vacation so we put 1,000 credit on our cabin. This should cover it all for us. I think anything not used will just be credited back to our visa/debit.

I will tell you from experience if you can pay just a couple of hundred towards your shipboard credit, it feels so good. When we got to our stateroom we had a message from Disney that we had a shipboard Credit from my parents and it was wonderful when settling our account to only have to add about $200 more to that. They called our Travel agent and had her apply it without us knowing it! What a wonderful suprise!!
