What is going to happen to the Wonder when the Dream is in service next year? Will the Wonder still be in service?

The Wonder is moving to the West Coast. It will do one Panama Canal cruise then Mexican Rivera cruises before it goes to Alaska for the summer.

A better question might be, what is going to happen to the Magic when the Fantasy arrives in 2012.

To add its a two year contract, to be based at LA for about 50% of the year, and that can be renewed annually for up to five years.

  • Summer Europe
  • Winter Caribbean.

And most likely a major refit after Fantasy arrives.

^^^ But won't the Fantasy basically take over the current Magic itineraries? I would have hoped to see the Magic relocated to the East Coast or Mid-Atlantic. Imagine it sailing out of Boston, NY or NJ!

Yes the Magic will no longer do 7 night carribean cruises.....

I really don't think this has been confirmed by DCL as of yet. The Magic can still do 7 night sailings out of PC, they would just need to leave on a different day of the week.

Its possible but a number of people cruising with DCL recently have all reported exactly the same thing, it is speculation but a consistent response is Winter 10/11 night Caribbean cruises.

If the Magic did the same 7 night trip, as a new ship, then there would be overcapacity on that route, and Magic would have to discount as the majority of people would want to go on the new ship.

We have evidenced in 2006 and 2009, when both Magic and Wonder were both sailing out of Port Canaveral, prices dropped, lots of offers, and they had lots of trouble filling the ships, if you have four ships, with a capacity of 5 to the current 2, then sailing two ships on the same route wouldn't be tenable, you have to offer a distinct service.

My bet the Magic will sail out of Europe. The Wonder will stay in the West Coast and the two new ships in Florida. :cool1:

They had a similar situation when the Wonder first came to PC.Both ships were doing 3/4s to the Bahamas. The Wonder left on Sun and Thurs, and the Magic on Mon and Fri.(I think. If not sat and Weds)The difference between now and then is that the economy wasnt at the bottom of the ocean where it was last year.Eventually the Magic started 7 day sailings, then eventually Cali and Europe.Theres a lot of varibiles at this moment, and for all we know the Magic(which was termed the Ambasador Ship at the Dreams unveiling by Karl Holtz) could spend time at a southern east coast port doing Canal Trips and longer deeper Carribeans.

I dont doubt for a second, with either the Dream or Fantasy doing 7s and the Magic doing 7s that one of the ships would have a hard time filling.

Time will tell what DCL has in mind for 2012 when the Fantasy shows up.

It's very seldom, if ever, that any rumor I've heard even from crew onboard has been correct.

The OP asked where the Wonder will be, and we all know that now.
Any word about the Magic is, so far, pure speculation.

There will only be three ships at Port Canaveral, not four, if the Magic stays based in Florida. It is a possiblity that they'll have one ship doing the 3/4 nights (which are a great money-maker for Disney because they combine them in the Land & Sea package) and another ship doing 7 nights, and the third doing longer cruises to the far Southern Caribbean.
It's also possible that they will contract to cruise from the East Coast, or Europe. But so far, NO ONE knows for sure.

I seriously doubt Disney will EVER have trouble filling their ships. Yes, there are a ton of other cruise ships that are far less expensive than DCL, but people REALLY love their Disney and always will.

You need to be careful when posting like this....too many people will see it as fact, when it's only a guess (or rumor) so far.

Once again is this fact or your personal opinion/guess?

I have not seen anything published by DCL to support this:confused3:confused3

Rob

Id be inclined to believe the Magic not doing the established 7 days trip also, for 2 reasons.(Youd have to look at the big picture, and sort of read between the lines at what everything the company is doing and saying over the last few years)

1.It is fact the both the Fantasy and the Dream will remain at PC for the first few years of their lives due to contract obligations with the port.1 will get the 3/4/5 and the other 7 day alternate,east/west.Who gets what when the Fantasy arrives remains to be seen.

2.It was stated by Karl Holtz during the Dream unveilings at D23(either the first or second annoucement) that the Magic was to be an "Ambassador Ship" which to me means that she will be doing other itnieraries, from different ports in the world,or new itineraries from PC(not out of the realm of impossibilities) and being the "test ship" for new ideas.

How about basing the Magic out of Miami or Ft. Lauderdale? That would cut a significant portion of the trip if they were to do a more southernly Carribean trip and still keep it a week for turn around.

I would love to see them do more of the "different" ports in the Caribbean, like the other cruise lines do.
Flying across the pond for the Med and Baltic cruises is cost-prohibitive for most Americans. But maybe they're wanting to nab the European market.
:confused3

This would be awesome :cool1::cool1:
