We are a family of 5. For logistical purposes my 12 year old is in a separate cabin with his grandma. When my family is welcomed to the ship can my 12 year old be with us, or does he half to be welcomed with grandma?

It's totally different than checking in. You can group however you want and give whatever names you like. People like to give silly names. It's informal.

It depends upon your Castaway Status. If none of you have ever sailed DCL then you are all the same status. If any member of you party has already sailed DCL they MAY be given a different boarding group number. That is really not a problem however because anyone given the earlier number can just stay back and board with the group when their number is called. DW and I sailed with SiS and BiL last May and they had never sailed. We went ahead and boarded and captured their expressions when they boarded about 10 mins. later. Have a GREAT cruise!
