Shiny Happy People's Dining Report - updated Tutto Italia!

Was deciding between Coral and France and looking at that steack and creme brulee. Hands down....Coral.

That Grilled New York Strip looks delish, and I'm not a huge steak fan. Thanks for your review.:)

Boy, I would love to have that steak. Sounds like you had a good time.

We loved Coral Reef!!! Can't wait to see the rest of your pics and review!!! :cool1:

Thanks everyone and you are very welcome!:lovestruc

Loved the pics. I'm a big fan of Coral Reef also. We'll be hoping to get in this October!

I will be jealous of you in October!

Signing on! We were pleasantly surprised by Coral Reef two years ago as well.

I am thinking about getting a new camera....if you don't mind, what type do you have that has food settings? :) The pictures look great!

It is a Sony Cyber-shot DSCH-20. We were very pleased with all of our pictures for the week!

Glad I could help!

I will be posting my pics ands review of Crystal Palace breakfast in just a bit!

I absolutely love the blackened catfish at Coral Reef, but that steak also looks really good!

After an exhausting day of travel the day before and great dinner, we got a good night's sleep and headed off bright and early to the Magic Kingdom. We had an ADR for 8:10 AM so that we could be in the park before it's opening. That is such a neat thing!

We ate at Crystal Palace for dinner two years ago and really liked it. This restaurant is so pretty and all of the glass makes the view from the inside out irresistable!

DSC00212.jpg

We were seated within 10 minutes of arrival, and we arrived right at 8:00 AM. Tigger was already in our area, so we waited for him to come by and get the "paparazzi" treatment complete with photo and autographs!

As soon as Tigger moved to the next table, we all made a beeline for the buffet!

This was my plate. I had eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon, breakfast lasagna, fruit (with sweet whip cream), corn beef hash, and the AWESOME puffed french toast. I also had a side bowl of grits!

DSC00220.jpg

It was all good, but my favorites were the puffed french toast and the BACON!! Oh my Lord, Disney bacon! It was crisp and so tasty.:thumbsup2
The breakfast lasagna was quite interesting. It had a bread pudding texture with so many tastes! Because there were so many things in it, each bite was a little different.

Timone's plate - My carnivore son is also a huge GRAVY fan. So, he went straight for the biscuits and gravy along with a few other items.

Pluto's girl went for Mickey shaped waffle, a muffin, bacon and fruit. She asked to be in this picture..

DSC00222.jpg

In the meanwhile, Mr. Incredible had gone off to get "made to order" omlette. He had it made with sausage, bacon, cheese, onion, bell peppers and mushrooms. He thought it was very good! AND at the omlette station they can make specialty pancakes! Mr. Incredible wanted me to tell you all that they will do specialty pancakes, but you have to ask for it. So the second picture below is of the Mickey shaped chocolate chip pancake that he had made!

We did have a terrific breakfast and the character interaction was great. Piglet had alot of personality that all of us really enjoyed! Although we enjoyed it, when we go back to CP, we will do the dinner again. Later in the week, we did breakfast at Chef Mickeys and it was a better breakfast buffet than CP in our opinions...

With full stomachs and happy hearts, we left the 100 Acre Wood and headed out into the Magic Kingdom.

Oh! One thing I forgot to say is that we were sitting there enjoying breakfast and the characters when the swarm from rope drop made it back to the area "the hub" where CP is located. And can I just say "WOW"! Everyone needs to just watch that once - we are usually IN the swarm, but it was really interesting to be able to see all those people stream in and where they chose to go. It was just a different perspective!:goodvibes

Coming up soon...

1900 Park Fare review

Joining in!

We also really loved Coral Reef and were surprised by how great the steak was. I'm so glad you enjoyed your first meal, and can't wait to hear more!!

BTW, I was just wondering, if you guys are on the DP, does Pluto's Girl get jealous that Timone can order from the adult menu and she's stuck with the kids'? I only have one, so not an issue, but it sure would have been when my sis and I were kids! ;)

We are excited to try CP breakfast on our next trip. BTW, your pics are great!! I love that one of the outside of CP!!

When we went 2 years ago, Timone was 10, so he was an adult then too. It wasn't an issue for Pluto's Girl back in 2007, but this time it was, on occasion, an issue.

We felt like that many of the kids choices were kind of limiting. We didn't feel that way last time. However, I am not sure that is necessarily a Disney change, but a change in our kid. She was quite jealous of his steak at CR. When we went to LeCellier, a small steak was on the kids menu and she LOVED that.

And thanks for the pic compliments!

Great reviews!!! cant wait for more!!! and let me just add that it was great that you were upgraded to club level!! im staying at beach club next week and can only pray for something like that to happen!!!

Joining in! We have many of the same ADRs when we go in August/September!

Signing up!! Great review..

Hi
Great reviews!! Thanks!

Joining in! We have many of the same ADRs when we go in August/September!

Thank you everyone! You come home tired, but appreciative for the trip. And I found myself thinking, "Well, it will be a while before we get back and that's o.k." But today (a week after we got back), I am thinking, "That is NOT o.k.! Thank God for the disboards to keep the magic alive!"

Before I start this report, I will point out the title of the thread... We are a Shiny, Happy Family and I am a Shiny, Happy person when it comes to Disney. However, I will tell you that the dinner at 1900, was a disappointment to me. I will categorize it as a series of "highs and lows"!

First of all, I had never been to Grand Floridian before. I have wanted to stay there, but the price kept us away. One thing I am grateful for is that in going to this dinner, I got to see the hotel and came to the conclusion that it really wasn't for me. Don't get me wrong - IT IS BEAUTIFUL, but others on the boards have called it "stuffy" and that is how I would describe it too. I LOVED the fact that when I was at the Beach Club, I could step out on my balcony and hear all the action at Storm Along Bay. No flames because my dear friend who is also a Disney freak LOVES it, it just isn't for me.

Now on to the report - The HIGHS >

#1 -the photograph you get taken before you enter... It isn't part of the meal - you have to pay for it in additon to the meal. There is a great background, and it is a terrific picture of my family. I woudn't trade it for anything!

#2 -the characters... it is unique because you have the sweet and charming Cindy and her Prince along with the icy Lady Tremaine and the raucous step-sisters, Drisella and Anastasia. The step sisters were great and VERY funny. Timone LOVED them!

#3 - the service...We had great service the entire time.

The LOWS >

In a nutshell, THE FOOD - at least MOST of it. In fact, as you will see, I took VERY few pictures of food while at 1900. When you compare this dinner buffet to Crystal Palace dinner buffet, there IS no comparison = CP is MUCH better! The choices were limited, especially for the kids. Pluto's Girl is not very picky, but she barely ate a thing.

The meat (pork and beef) was over done. Mr. Incredible, always the optomist, asked for and got a piece that was a bit more rare. But, the rest of us were not impressed. There were very few side choices - mashed potatos and some strange salads. I felt they were trying to get a bit "fancy" with their choices, but I think that was lost because it was a character buffet.

There were some bright spots in the meal - Strawberry Soup! That was wonderful! Here is a picture of it with some Ceasar Salad.
DSC00255.jpg

And the desserts were splendid!

Here are some pics of my kids with the characters:
Cindy...

Drisella
DSC00256.jpg

Anastasia - now she was good! She would put her finger under her chin like this and yell "CHEEESE" really obnoxiously! It was hilarious!

DSC00260.jpg

All in all I don't think we will be returning to 1900 Park Fare (unless I hear they change their buffet choices). However, I do recommend the atmosphere and character experience. It was one like none other in the World!

Next up..Sci-Fi Drive-In at Hollywood Studios!

A few comments:

I absolutely love seafood. It's my first choice anywhere we eat, but that steak at Coral Reef looks incredible.

Your pictures of the castle and Crystal Palace are amazing! I think I must make a pre-opening reservation on our next trip just so I can see the place when it's virtually empty.

And you pictures of the food at Crystal Palace - YUM!! And I've done the breakfast there, but your pictures brought the food to life.

I must remember to find your trip report since our dream is to say at Y&B Club on our next trip. (Paying off all our debt and saving up for the trip of a lifetime and Y&B Club is where we want to stay.)

Thanks for the pixie dust and im sorry you had a bad food experience at 1900. I've never been there but ive heard about lots of issues with the food. Tuned in!!

Thank you for telling us about the specialty pancakes. Ever trip we always go to CP during lunchtime but we have to try breakfast knowing my son will love the specialty pancakes.

I can't wait to hear the rest of your dinning report. Thank you for sharing.

Hey Friends!

Pardon my slowness...

Mr. Incredible and I went to Vegas with some friends over the past weekend. (ADULT Disney World)

I am now back and read to give the Sci-Fi review. :cutie:

We went to "the Studios" (what I call DHS) on our 2nd full day. Let me say that we got there about 20 minutes before rope drop. If you have ever been at the Studios for rope drop, you know it is nuts because they make you go down a narrow street to wait until the "pre-show" is over. I know it is that way at every park, but it just seemed so very crowded there. Anyway, the finally let us and go and EVERYONE, I MEAN EVERYONE (or so it seemed) headed to the back for Toy Story Mania. :scared1::eek: It was unlike any other rope drop because it appeared that EVERYONE headed back there. It was nuts!

Now I know this is a DINING review, but I said all of that to set the crazy scene that day and to contrast it to Sci-Fi Drive In. We had lunch ressies and got there about 10 minutes early and only waited about 5 minutes before we were seated. Obviously, because it is a "drive-in" it is set a night. It was dark, cool and quiet and a welcome relief to the heat outside.

DSC00291.jpg

Our waiter, Jorge, has worked at Sci-Fi since it OPENED in 1991. I thought that was impressive. He was very attentive, and we enjoyed him.

Mr. Incredible decided he and I needed to split a glowing speciality drink! As you can tell, we sucked it right down, but kept the "glow cube".

DSC00293.jpg

Mr. Incredible ordered the Shrip and Pasta dish. He enjoyed it very much!

DSC00294.jpg

I had the Reuben sandwich. It was good, but I had ordering regret. Timone's hamburger was GREAT!

DSC00296.jpg

Here is his bacon cheeseburger. It comes with grilled onions, but Timone doesn't go for those, so we had them put on the side. It was really yummy!

DSC00297.jpg

Pluto's girl had the kids hot dog:
DSC00298.jpg

We also all great desserts! For some reason, I can't find the pictures. If I locate them I will post them. Mr. Incredible had the peanut butter - chocolate cake, Timone and I had the hot fudge sundae, and Pluto's girl had the make your own sundae. The fudge on the hot fudge sundae was amazing! Mr. Incredible is a huge peanut butter/chocolate fan and he truly enjoyed the cake.

The best part of this meal was this different type of dining experience and the fact that it was so calm and cool. Our family had often laughed since that day about some of the silly old movies that were previewed. We laughed out loud several time while we were in there because they are so dorky! It was great fun!

I would definitely go back there and recommend it to anyone. Next time I will have the bacon cheeseburger!

Coming up soon - review of Chef Mickey's breakfast!

Oh, a quick extra report in here...

The day after DHS, Mr. Incredible, Timone, and Pluto's Girl went to Blizzard Beach. I am not a water park person, so I spent that morning cruising Epcot and the World Showcase on my own. I went on the "refurbed" Spaceship Earth and everyone needs to do that, it is really nice with the updates! I also did one round of the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure and it was AWESOME!!! The rest of the family and I went back later and did more!

Anyway, while I was in the WS on my own, I had a snack and lunch!

I had a Strawberry Tart from Boulangerie Patisserie in France:

DSC00316.jpg

After my adventures, I had fish and chips from Yorkshire County Fish Shop! YUM!

DSC00318.jpg

Both of these World Showcase gems made for a wonderful morning "cruising the Showcase"!
